League Suspended.

Very brave of the Prem to suspend a grand total of ... [checks notes] ... one round of fixtures.

The longer the suspension the longer it will take to re-start. With no training taking place there will need to be amid season 'pre season'.

No way on earth the League will resume on 3rd April. If anything, Corona will be worse by then. It's merely the Premier League buying time to discuss with TV, Sponsors and teams etc how they will go about cancelling the season.

They are not going to cancel the season. Absolutely no chance.

There’s billions at stake here and it can all be resolved in a fair and safe manner just by postponing for a couple, or at worst a few, months.

The only precedent for cancelling the season was 1939-40 when a) there’d only been 3 games, b) there was (almost literally) no money involved and c) it was suspended because of a war which nobody had any idea how long it would last. There’s good reason to think that things will be back to “normal” (with due respect to those affected to date and in the future) within a few months at most.

Most of what I've read on RAWK is actually pretty measured and Liverpool fans are being pragmatic. Best hope is that Euros get cancelled so the domestic seasons can be completed. But mentally preparing for a cancellation.

The transfer window will be interesting.

Just out of interest.

Australian Rugby league is playing this weekend, but then the gvt is banning groups of more than 500 people from MONDAY lol

Can’t see any possibility that we start again April 4th

all the people that become infected In next week (and there will be many many thousands) will force isolation of others for  one or two weeks. That takes us to 3 rd April - so no one will become infected in that fortnight ???  Not feasible

this suspension will go to the last week April at the earliest imo.

Agree with this. It's going to be incredibly difficult for the FA / PL / EFL to trying plan what to do until they know what's happening and how long this is going to go on for.

Quite agree. I think next week's meeting of Uefa is key. If they postpone Euro finals to next summer then It would be possible to extend the season in all European countries into the summer. I think the FA cup is likely to be abandoned but I think they will do all they can to finish the league seasons even if some matches need to be played behind closed doors.

Why would you abandon the FA Cup with 3 rounds to go? It doesn’t make any sense. The 2020 FA Cup Final doesn’t have to be played in May, they could play it on Christmas Day if they have to.

People are talking like football is going to end forever. Season start/end dates can obviously be moved for situations like this.

Likewise the Bundesliga (in areas where local government hasn't already acted to limit spectator numbers). Baffling policy.

Sorry, people can be small minded at times. This is not the time to be bitching and moaning at the government  because they don`t wear red.

Grow up.

"Meanwhile, in the Prime Minister Corbyn Timeline, the right wing press are desperately trawling through their archives to find any reference to Corbyn inviting Corvid-19 to the Houses of Commons in the 80's."

That's blatantly what the Premier League tried to pull too, one last pay day for everyone before a big freeze. But that's just so reckless in every possible way. What's the one thing you DON'T want to do with a highly infectious virus that spreads easily... oh yeah meet up in hundreds

No but it is time to be bitching and moaning about a government if you feel they aren't dealing with the situation sufficiently.

Yes, it is, assuming your views have more value/credence than those of the government.

Lots and lots of questions, particularly if it's extended, without gate money, hospitality, food and merchandise profits etc how will a lot of the smaller clubs tick over? I know they do over the summer but they plan for that in their budget?

It's two rounds. This weekend and the following weekend. Then it's international break I think.

You could literally finish the FA Cup in a week if you needed to.

Hold it as a "pre-season" tournament to the rest of the league season to get thigns going again (hopefully).

Interesting side note, the transfer window opens on May 18th, with a delay to the season, will players technically be able move clubs before the last game is played this year?

Good point, think it should retain equidistance from the season really

When has that stopped people questioning the Government, whatever colour they wear?

People are entitled to be worried about the response. You are making it about politics, not the people worried about how it's being dealt with.

We can see it now,as the Real winter break ( in spring) a few had been looking for..!!a

if this Need prolongues itself &  goes deep......Then IMO ( some Posters mentioned some ideas yesterday)

# When to declare e 2019/2020 season with 29 games Complete present positions stand..!!

A). Teams with 28...tough. B) allowed to Play last game..c) The season is shortened where all teams can fit in..either 30,31,32 games!!!

  # Ascertain how long the players Need a Summer break. To see if season can be completed, and when a 2020/21 Late season shall start.

# Be prepared for delaying, summer Transfer window.

# Be prepared to cancel for one season the League(carraboa) cup. Even with a Late September start, the FA.cup should still be possible. no replays including

for The Early Rounds &  lower, non Profi teams..

# CL and other, for One season only. Knock-out,or condensed league-system qualification for Next round,if deemed necessary...

# I presume Concerts and large festivals, with large gatherings will be cancelled, postponements I Doubt are possible..Also Europe wide.

Not at all, it is 100% about the solidarity and the response to this pandemic.

Some people start  by moaning about the government or PM's response. I think now is not the time to try to score cheap points and our focus remains solely on the situation.
