Because what the world really needs right now is another nationalist pissing contest. No wonder Guterres was doing his nut - he must feel like pretty much the only adult in the room, Macron aside.

They have the votes to confirm, then. I wonder if the Dems will actually respond if and when they win the White House and Senate in Nov or if they're all mouth and no trousers yet again.

The real problem is not being able to spell centre correctly.

Put it in the who gives a crap thread (better known as the pedantry thread) lol

Actually, he used the 'merica spelling. It's "centre" in Canada.

I've notified the proper authorities and @Jattdogg will be dealt with.

In my defense, I worked for an American  company for years so had to get used to the 'murican spelling.

Also, don't know who you notified but they showed up and insisted on a cavity search. I told them to shove it where the sun don't shine.

["Regardless of the outcome today or Wednesday, I know we did the legal, moral and ethical thing that night," he wrote in the message, which was published by media outlets on Tuesday.

"It's sad how the good guys are demonised, and the criminals are canonised."

"Your civil rights mean nothing," he added, "but the criminal has total autonomy."]

I wish I had the gall to be directly responsible for the death of an innocent woman, face next to zero consequences for it and be this OK with it afterwards.

Quote

The officer was shot by a man who was being detained at the custody centre in Windmill Lane.

It is believed the suspect was taken to the station, where he was searched, before producing a weapon and firing it at an officer and himself.

The officer was treated at the scene by paramedics after the incident at 02:15 BST. He later died in hospital of gunshot wounds.

They had a search warrant from a judge, executed the warrant, got shot at and fired themselves.  Horrible outcome but it would be harsh in this case I think to prosecute the officers.

And it is not reasonable to take into account that she was a wonderful person, paramedic etc (I am sure she was great) if you cannot take into account that say George Floyd was a nasty piece of work high on drugs.  To be clear neither are a factor in whether the law was broken really.

FWIW I'm prepared to believe the grand jury acted within the law to not prosecute here (though I'd add that in this case the law is an arse).

I'm more thinking about this bloke who has taken the life of a presumed innocent woman and seemingly feels absolutely zero remorse for it, if that email is anything to go by. I'm not sure about anyone else, but if I'd killed someone, even by accident, I'd be feeling a bit shit about it for a while afterwards. And I'd also add that perhaps lack of empathy is not a desirable trait for a member of a police service.

Tragic for the officers family, feel for them this morning.,

I only visit when we're away at Palace (I think that's Croydon?? Might actually be Sehurst stn). There's loads of different London boroughs that seem rough as fvck when I go.

There's a term for it - "perseverance porn" or somesuch. People get so carried away with these gestures of philanthropy that they don't seem to question the system that put such poor people in that position in the first place.

It's the same with all those GoFundMe's for medical costs in the US - rather than celebrating hitting a target so someone can have lifesaving treatment, perhaps you should, you know, work towards having a healthcare system where that doesn't have to happen at all?

Edit:

Here it is.

Anywhere out of the tourist areas is a ****ing hell hole. A really unpleasant city for the most part.
