I don't think the media suggest the men's and women's game are similar in quality at all.

My feeling is that the media have highlighted (quite rightly IMHO) that the women's game has improved massively in recent years.

Same with cricket and rugby and darts and golf and various others - all improved greatly.

I don't understand people who compare the men's and women's games in sport. You have to take them on their own merits.

I agree but sometimes they really don't help themselves.

When discussing Aubameyang signing a deal, Sky Sports News said "we now cross live to an Arsenal legend, 3-time FA Cup winner to get their thoughts". I was thinking, Henry, Adams, Pires, even Mesut Ozil?

It was former Arsenal ladies player Lianne Sanderson. I don't doubt that she had a great career for Arsenal Ladies, but sports outlets often do pretend they're the same thing.

It is great that women's football is getting more attention and that a lot the WSL games are live on TV and I really hope that the 2019 WWC inspired a generation, but I feel that the way sports outlets promote them can rub people up the wrong way. That was a petty example, but it happens a lot. It's trickery rather than genuineness.

Precisely.

The thing is you can't raise these concerns without being branded or looked upon in a negative way. I've no problems with the women's game - I just much prefer the mens. There needs to be distinctions, too. Physiologically we're entirely different and the difference in games is reflective of that.

Throughout the Women's World Cup we were told that the standard is the same as the mens - it was a running theme with the pundits and it simply isn't true. At a certain point it becomes an agenda and it is irritating.

Shocking.

Why is it shocking? I bet there's plenty of facts and figures that people aren't aware of. I couldn't tell you how many British soldiers died in any of the wards. I couldn't tell you how many people chairman Mao or Staling had killed.

If someone said 7 million, they'd be unaware it was 6 million. If they said millions they would be unaware it's 6 million. If they said a sh*t load, they'd be unaware it's 6 million.

The headline is aiming to make people think that nearly 66% of people are unaware of the holocaust or how devestating it was. The mad thing is I saw it all over facebook yesterday with people saying as much. I always thought the left were supposed to be more educated but they seem to lack basic analytical skills.

@urban.spaceman this isn't really aimed at you specifically btw :D  Just a general frustration, I must have seen the same article and the same reaction about 20-30 times yesterday. Tiresome.

Nice work if you can get it.

Ex-Transport Secretary Chris Grayling has landed a £100,000 job advising the owner of some of the UK's top ports.

The Conservative MP is working for Hutchison Ports, which operates Harwich and Felixstowe among other terminals.

According to the MPs' register of financial interests, he will be paid for seven hours work a week for a year.

The appointment has been approved by a Whitehall watchdog despite it raising concerns of a "perceived risk" that it may give the firm an unfair advantage.

The Advisory Committee on Business Appointments (ACOBA) said Mr Grayling had reassured them he would not be advising the company on its commercial maritime activities or risks and opportunities associated with Brexit.

The watchdog said the role would be limited to advising the firm, which also operates London Thamesport, on its environmental strategy and its engagement with local enterprise bodies.

It said the MP must comply with these and other conditions, including a ban on him lobbying ministers on behalf of the company or giving advice on UK government tenders, until July 2021, two years after he left the cabinet.

Mr Grayling stepped down as transport secretary when Boris Johnson became PM in July 2019, having served under his predecessor Theresa May for three years.

Not bad, 1 hours work a day at £275/hour!

My divorce lawyer charged £205 + VAT per hour.

More specifically, it was £20.50 + VAT for each 6 minutes or part thereof.

Thus, if he sent a 1-line email and then I replied.......£41 + VAT.....kerrching!

When I met him, he'd read out any letter.....in....a.....really.....slow....voice.....:frusty:

We're in the wrong line of work!

Sod that. Decent money and all,  but I can't think of much worse than being the "middle man" between people breaking up. Far too much drama. :nigel:

The original article said millennials, which is quite a bit different as a headline. Probably a similar figure to most countries.

To be honest i didn't know the exact figures myself because i learned about it as a teen in the 90s . Life and kids have since  happend and these details have fuked off. My brain is now more concerned about covid, whats to pack in my kids lunch tomorrow and which pornhub vid to wank to before the kids and wife get home in 3.5 hours (i'm "WFH"- wanking from home).

I do know about the unthinkable crimes committed during the wars  but i'm no history buff. The good thing is we have google and a whole bunch of websites (good and bad), libraries etc where we can learn (or in my case relearn) about historic times etc.

Tom Watson hired by gambling giant Paddy Power as adviser

Former Labour deputy leader Tom Watson has been appointed as an adviser to one of the UK's biggest gambling firms.

Mr Watson, who left Parliament last year, was a campaigner for stricter rules on gambling while he was an MP.

He is joining Flutter, which owns brands like Paddy Power and Betfair.

The firm said he will "bring a fresh and robust voice into the business, as it looks for ways to protect "vulnerable customers," while serving those who enjoy gambling safely.

Flutter, which also owns Sky Bet and Poker Stars, saw its pre-tax profits slump 70% to £24m in August, after being hit by coronavirus and the costs of a merger. The company is seeking to expand further into online poker and gaming.

'Positive change'
Mr Watson said: "I have a long-standing interest in this sector and consistently called for action to protect those that may be potentially vulnerable to harm.

"In taking on this role in Flutter, I intend to get under the bonnet of the business.

He added: "I strongly believe that working collaboratively with Flutter in this way will allow me to continue to drive positive change".

Mr Watson has previously called for an end to gambling advertising on football shirts, and a ban on television ads during live events and called gambling was a "hidden epidemic".

If the left didn't have double standards, they would have no standards.

About time the destination was made between an organisation that only wants to create  more division and something that actually might help.

The PL can of course do as they like and it's fair to say that the organisation haven't done themselves favours with some things that have happened.

However, is there anyone else who is even doing so much as raising awareness in a significant way concerning the very real, very substantiated issue of systemic racism within the US justice system?

Arguably not, but you could also say that there's nobody with more divisive tactics or goals than the BLM movement. Their stated goals are extremely problematic and most people are starting to realise it. The Oxford BLM leader is a massive racist herself, as well as being batshit ****ing mental (Sasha Johnson, google her). It's very interesting to see that the PL has now switched back to No Room for Racism with Kick It Out. I'd prefer it if we stopped importing America's political hysteria over here personally.
