'The accommodation and food service activities industry had the highest percentage of businesses with no or low confidence that their businesses would survive the next three months, at 32%.'

Hotels are absolutely dropping likes flies. A great many have opened the doors for the Govt to put whoever they want in there (often Asylum seekers and emergency accomodation stuff).

Even then they are struggling big time.

It's shocking mate.

I know the new one near Vaughan Way started to accept a lot of homeless people, purely because they have loads of spare rooms and needed the coin.

Extension of furlough until March is an admission of us likely being in the current restrictions until then imo.

I can promise you on my testicles we will not be out of this lockdown in December nor for Christmas.

I reckon they're just planning ahead in case it lasts until March and they can just cancel it if we're closer to 'normal' and people return to work.

Imagine the mad rush from people trying to sort themselves out if they just did it month by month.

**not to say it won't be until March.

Didn't they literally say the 2nd December will be written into law a couple of days ago?

They did sort of say that but I think if you look at the detail it is something like it will legally come to an end on 2nd December, ie this particular period of lockdown, but there's nothing to stop another one being imposed. So they can say they aren't U turning should that situation arise.

That's quite brave statement but then I don't suppose we would hold it against you! On a serious note you are most likely correct but Boris will want to "save" Chrismas so expect a week reprieve leading to ernomous increases in infection and anothe rlockdown in January.

Hope you are coping at work!

Every day we admit more and more again, we are back to doubling the icu beds (2 patients in one bed space), London isn't even busy yet compared to the north and wales. They're not going to suddenly end lockdown in December.

We're all good tho this is just normal life in many hospitals now, no choice in the matter!

Same profile of patient as before?

Try and stay sane. Probably the best you can do. Guess there won't be much of a Christmas break for you guys.

I do wonder just how big a debt we are creating here.

Best not to think about it, certainly not worth thinking about the fact we have to pay it back despite not benefiting from it.

Simple, wait for the next election, vote labour in and they'll supertax the 5% that own 95% of the wealth.

It might support an extended lockdown (or prepare for it) but I doubt we'll be in lockdown til March.

The original furlough scheme only just ended last week didn't it? But we weren't (as a whole country) in lockdown all the way up to then.

Or more likley they will find a way to hide their wealth like they always do unfortunatley.

Exactly, a lot of businesses have been operating under extraordinary restrictions which have impacted sales and the need for a full team of staff, furlough/flexi-furlough has been making sure for instance that staff with hourly contracts aren't completely screwed by a drastic downturn in hours available while their employers don't get shafted by footing the bill for contracted hours which no longer exist and provide no return on investment.  For 0 hours contracts I believe employers are able to claim based on an employee's average hours worked in 'normal' times but I don't work with 0 hour contracts so don't hold me to that.

Sure is a good job that the treasury buried its head in the sand about future possibilities with the virus, tried to swiftly return to its ‘sound money’ thinking, was adamant it would be far less generous, and as with all of government has now acted too late by reinstating schemes it designed in record time in March without addressing anything learned in that period. Another U-turn and a lazy one at that. And why time limit again, so pointless.
