Everything should be open from the end of May (IMO), let’s get this horrible episode finished.

Not going to lie, I’m going to be on the pitch when Wes Morgan nobs in the winner in the last minute of the last game of the season to get us in the Champions League.

I'd like to think it's well before that but don't know about anyone else, the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel seems to be shining a bit brighter now...

I hope so too, but not getting my hopes up too high! Schools and meeting up outdoors in march, meeting up indoors, shops and restaurants in April and then pubs in May would be decent.

If the data from Israel replicate here, that time frame is quite realistic in terms of hospital pressure. They'll be wanting cases per day a lot lower than what we have now though (more virus circulating means more chance of a mutation that evades the vaccine).

Aren’t they now saying that the vaccines appear to offer good protection against transmission? If so that should keep the total amount of virus well down and reduce the likelihood of mutation. All the more reason to make sure that the vaccine is distributed worldwide as soon as possible, with first world helping out the third world.

Vaccines that reduce transmission will certainly help. There's a fine balance to be struck between releasing restrictions and managing case rates during the vaccine role out (that no one can accurately judge). The vaccines put a selection pressure on the virus, such that any effective mutations are going to be the ones that can escape the vaccine. Because mutations happen at random, it's best to have circulating levels low, because this reduces the chance of an effective mutation.

I think they'll want new cases per day in the hundreds before things like pubs reopen normally (in the meantime we'll have outdoor socially distanced drinking)

I can't see the Euros thing happening here. Very ambitious so can't knock that, but just practically I'm not sure. It's very risky, surely, with case ratws across Europe not as low as here? I know adults will be vaccinated here at least once by then, but I can't see UEFA allowing it.

Is that ever going to happen on a long term basis? Without starting the whole false positive debate off again, isn't that something like 1 in a 1000? The only month we had where cases were under 1000 last year was July, then they went back up again in August, and we were only doing 250-300k tests per day then, not the 500-800k we seem to do everyday now.

I understand the need to keep cases low, but we (and the Government) have got to be realistic with it.

EDIT: I should add that I agree with you though, I think we'll see masks and 2 meters distance in pubs for the whole of 2021.

Hope he gets better soon, what symptoms does he have/ had? Is Your grand daughter better now?

Well he's up now but still feeling very weak. His symptoms are sore throat and chest, cough, loss of appetite and memory: apparently couldn't remember Brendan Rodgers name. We told him to get in his garden and get some fresh air/oxygen. He said funnily enough the best he's felt was when he put the bins out lol

'Early data' showing vaccine reduces transmission, too...

There is "early data" showing a reduction in transmission in people who have had a coronavirus vaccine, the health secretary has said.

Matt Hancock said hospital admissions were falling "much more sharply" than they were in the pandemic's first wave.

The government aims to offer a first jab to all adults in the UK by the end of July, with one in three adults already vaccinated, Mr Hancock said.

The PM will unveil his road map for ending England's lockdown on Monday.

Mr Hancock told the BBC's Andrew Marr show that he was "absolutely delighted" with the progress of the vaccine rollout.

But he added that while hospital admissions were falling, the level was still "far too high".

The health secretary reiterated the government's new plan to offer a jab to adults aged 50 and over and those in the top nine priority groups by 15 April, followed by all adults by the end of July.

He said the "success" of the vaccine rollout so far had allowed them to accelerate it, a move he added would have "an impact" on how quickly society would be able to return to normal.

It'll depend on how good the vaccines are at reducing transmission. If they are as good as the initial data suggest, then combined with outdoor socialising in summer, and some restrictions indoors, we could very well get to the low hundreds.

I'm not saying I agree with this, but on Monday I think we'll hear Boris say for everything to be back to fully 'normal', we'll want cases per day below something like 500. In the meantime, like you say,  masks, social distancing etc. will be hear to stay as reopen retail and hospitality.

Good to hear he is up and about a bit. The Mrs sister had similar to that took her a few weeks to get back To not being so tired all the time.  Shame it’s not really that warm were he could just sit in the garden for a bit if the air has made him feel better
