Watford Away Pre Match

Recommended Posts

Don’t normally start threads but came to read the pre match thread for Watford away and found there wasn’t one!

Well off you go then, start discussing. Not worth me chipping in as I can’t remember much and don’t know anything. I’ll be interested in what others have to say though :)

6 pointer.  Must win or Rogers out.   He has not won a game since mid-March ffs.

Would like to see a couple youngsters on the bench, think we're allowed 9 subs now??

Ward, Gyamfi, Morgan, Thomas, Choudhury, Praet, Albrighton, Iheanacho, Hirst

FOOTBALL IS BACK!!!!!!

Great job in making the thread and getting our minds off chronic bordeom and the feeling of groundhog day!

As for the match, let's be honest it's impossible to say what will happen because there are so many questions to be answered:
- What physical shape are our players in?

- What physical shape are Watford's players in?

- How will the lack of a crowd affect the game? (In the Bundesliga, home advantage seems to have been wiped out completely).

- How will both sets of players deal with the mental challenge of such an unprecedented situation?

I think that regardless it will be really interesting to see the match to find out the answer to all of these questions. Perhaps the reason to be optimistic is that Rodgers coached the team really well during the off-season last summer, so in some ways if a great coach has extra time with our team he might be able to keep our standards high and / or improve some players. We've got no Ricardo for the rest of the season so there is a fair bit of pressure on JJ, but I think he will cope with it and prove himself to be a good player. In fact realistically I think next summer Ricardo goes for 60m+ to one of the top sides in Europe and JJ becomes first choice for us anyway.

Vardy

I'd argue Albrighton comes into the mix instead of Perez, especially after seeing the line-ups in the inter-squad friendly.

^^ Are we forgetting Praet was the most inform midfielder we had before lockdown? (Ndidi aside)

Pre-lockdown form is basically irrelevant at this point. We've not played for gone 3 months, its almost similar to a new season.

What were the squads mate?

A win would be huge. Our form hasn't been amazing in 2020 and we've lost away games against similar and worse sides. Would be a massive 3 points if we could get them, especially playing before the chasing pack. Last 4 games of the season are tough too, so we need to extend the gap.

The nerves and pessimism are kicking in already!

Love that there is a match thread back! 🥳 I think it absolutely has to be a win to settle the nerves. They looked sharp in training from what you could tell from the videos and they all look to have maintained their fitness levels well over the break. Apparently some had their fastest ever times in their sprint tests. 3 points in the bag!

I think JJ will play right back with hamza as back up.  JJ and chilly were in the same training match team so i think they will start together. Chilly actually changed from blue to grey from what we could tell (sharp eyed husband) so maybe there was a switch up in the teams to try out hamza in the right back role and how he would interact in this role with jonny and cags?

I'm not sure JJ is a given. There could be a surprise at the back.

Interesting. Hamza right back or 3 at the back with bennett in I'm betting on. Seem to remember rodgers starting with 3atb in his first game watford away.

Hamza at RB?

I was thinking yesterday that Hamza could possibly be coached into a right back. I think it’d suit him.
