Andy King makes admission as Leicester City career officially ends

The club icon's contract is officially expired, and he's now on the lookout for a new permanent home – although he hopes to play again at the King Power Stadium

 

Andy King has his heart set on returning to the King Power Stadium with a new club after admitting he should have left Leicester City sooner.

For the first time in more than 15 years, club icon King is officially not a City player, the Wales international’s contract expiring last week.

After four loan spells away from City – at Swansea, Derby, Rangers, and Huddersfield – during his final two-and-a-half years at the club, King is now on the hunt for a new permanent home.

 
 

Once in new colours, he hopes to return to the club where he will always be remembered fondly.

“I’m 31 and have this idea of keeping going till I’m about 39,” King told the Sunday Times. “I’d love to play at the King Power again – with another team.

“From a football point of view, in my head I left 18 months ago. I probably should have left earlier but when you’ve a connection like I have with the club you want to give it every chance.


“Brendan was brilliant, though. I appreciated his honesty.

“The past couple of years have been difficult for sure. Because I had something so good. I feel I’ve almost done it in reverse: you’re supposed to go to a few clubs when you’re young and then settle but I’ve done it the other way round.”

 

King experienced it all with City, one relegation, two play-off heartbreaks, one great escape, three titles, and a Champions League run.

Going through those sorts of emotions has only left him wanting more, although he admits he may have to sit down with managers to convince them to take a chance on him.

“I want to draw a line under that amazing journey and look forward to the next one,” he said. “You don’t replace it. You have to re-find it. I’m looking to find a bit of it somewhere else.

“I want to play for a team hungry to achieve something because I know I can offer that. I have experience of offering it.

He added to Sky Sports: "I've seen what's possible going through promotions and success. I think if you ask anyone who tasted success what drives them, they'll say they want it again. I'm desperate to have that somewhere else now. It’s an absolute drug and I’m desperate for that feeling again
 

"I want to go somewhere where they are fighting to achieve something, whether that is staying in a league or getting promoted. I want to feel a part of something again.

"I want to be somewhere settled. I want to know that we are playing for something and the manager wants to play the right way. These loan experiences have educated me. At Leicester I had only seen it one way.
 

“I know how scouting goes. A recruitment guy sits on his computer and goes, ‘Age: under 26; games: 40 of the last 46,’ and my name’s not going to come up.

“But I feel if I sit down [with a manager] and say this happened and I want to achieve this, they might say, ‘Right, actually that’s quite good.’”

The club have previously said they will arrange an event to mark King's incredible career at the club when it is a more suitable time to do so.

Honestly **** the sceptics and the whinging bastards that have slagged him off over the past few years. This guy is a proper Leicester City Legend.

 

Yes the club has moved on but without players like him we wouldn’t be in a position to move on. Throughout the league one renaissance right until promotion to the premier league he was arguably our most consistent and important player. 
 

I wish him every success with his next club and I hope when we can all return to the ground we can give him a proper send off whether that be a testimonial or as an opposition player

Great video.

 

It's a shame they didn't get any of his old teammates from the League One or Championship days on as well. Would have been great to see someone like Lloyd Dyer, Matty Fryatt or David Nugent on a video like that.
