Fox92 Posted 19 June 2020 Posted 19 June 2020 Kante. Alright probably not as good in the air but quicker at everything else.
murphy Posted 19 June 2020 Posted 19 June 2020 Wilf. Love Wilf! Kante was great driving forward with the ball which Wilf lacks, but Wilf is is out-performing him (and everyone else) in ball winning I believe and has added aerial ability and inspector Gadget legs. Kante never wanted to come here and couldn't wait to leave, even as champions. I don't blame him for that because he never had any tantrums and never gave less than 100% on the pitch. When he left I wished him well. It is a factor in my choice though as I only ever want players who want to play for us and Wilf has always shown great attitude and commitment. It must be great for players llike Youri or Madders to be able to express themselves going forward, safe in the knowledge that the machine that is Wilf has got their back defensively. Wilf's stats are almost superhuman. Love him as a player and his recent absence showed how absolutely vital he is to this team. Wilf for me. I don't know what we'd do without him.
Guest Mickyblueeyes Posted 19 June 2020 Posted 19 June 2020 Too hard a question! What I will say though, when Kante left I think I alongside a number of people never thought we'd see some of his quality again for a very long time. The fact we replaced him with a guy who is equally as good is just brilliant from our recruitment staff. We will never buy the finished article but Wilf (alongside a few others i.e. Kelechi) has shown if you invest and persevere with talented youngsters, you can pick up few gems.
gerrytaggart Posted 19 June 2020 Posted 19 June 2020 The fact that we can even ask this question is amazing to me. Comparing two of the best midfielders in the world, one an ex player and world Cup winner the other a current player. In my honest opinion prime Kante is the best in the world - hideously misused by Conte and Lampard. But I love Ndidi.
Stadt Posted 19 June 2020 Posted 19 June 2020 Has anybody actually watched Kante much recently? He’s not been the same player as he was 15-18. He’s picked up a few injuries and it’s affected the explosiveness in his game. We already struggle against the more physical sides in the league, if we had Kante in lieu of Ndidi the average height of our midfield would probably be 5’8 Besides Kante is wasted playing as 6 behind two other midfielders as he’s better in a pair because he can cover more ground that way.
Dan Posted 19 June 2020 Posted 19 June 2020 In their peak - Kante. In Juny 2020 - Ndidi. Kante's been a bit tainted I think the last year or two, he's not quite what he was. He's also far more suited to a counter attacking side than one like ours. Mind you imagine a midfield of Ndidi behind Kante and another. It's a cheat code.

I think Kante has a natural football intelligence, reads the game so well and anticipates where the ball will go..i think we just let him do his thing in the middle of the pitch Whereas at Chelsea i wonder if he has had his head filled with tactical instructions and this has stifled him

Les-TA-Jon Posted 19 June 2020 Posted 19 June 2020 Kante played as a box to box midfielder for us. Ndidi plays as a holding midfielder. Close to apples and oranges really.
urban fox Posted 19 June 2020 Posted 19 June 2020 Kante in THAT season was immense, he was everywhere, amazing engine but has been misused since and seems a shadow of what he was. However, Wilf is an absolute beast, and at this moment in time the best holding midfielder around. The fact that we are even having this debate shows just how brilliant our recruiting team have been. We lose a player generally acknowledged as the best there is in his position and replace him with someone who has the potential to be even better longer term. The fact that Wilf seems to be grateful for his break and committed to the cause, whereas Kante departed for the bright lights at the first opportunity is probably clouding my vision here sightly too. It is great that these types of players are finally getting the recognition for the graft they put in and the fact that they are the glue that holds teams together. Every team needs one. Back in the day we had Lennon, MUFC had Roy keane, Arsenal viera etc. The often unsung heroes who do the hard miles, the dirty work that sets the flair players free to do their stuff in the safe knowledge that if they lose the ball someone has got their back.
Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot Posted 19 June 2020 Posted 19 June 2020 Love that someone's highlighted ndidis shooting power, I love the bloke but to call this an edge over kante is ludicrous, yeah he's got a powerful kick just a shame he doesn't play rugby as he'd score loads of points.

Agree with this but i have to say we havnt seen prime Ndidi yet . he’s still 3-4 years away from that.

Love the man to bits but whenever he crops up on the edge of the box the cry "don't shoot Wilf" goes up in our household.
Jimbo Posted 19 June 2020 Posted 19 June 2020 Kante, is undoubtedly, a better player. But, for me, Ndidi suits us better in our current set up. Kante worked for us because of the style we played, he transitioned from defence to attack so quickly. It's a part of his game that is often missed because of his defensive abilities, hes actually quite good at carrying the ball forward. However, with our more patient style these days, Ndidi has a better range of passing, something that has improved tenfold since Rodgers arrival. He also adds extra height in the middle. Coupled with the fact that with Kante in the middle teams would try to nullify him by playing down the flanks, which didn't bother us as Morgan and Huth could deal with and clear most crosses. With Evans and Soyuncu now in central defence we're not as exposed with teams coming through the middle. Kante could do Ndidi's job, just wouldn't be as effective as I don't think his longer range passing is as good, meaning we couldn't try to stretch teams like we do now. Plus we'd lose height in both defending and attacking set pieces. So, as I said, Kante is a better player, but I've chosen Ndidi
don_danbury Posted 19 June 2020 Posted 19 June 2020 the one in 2015/16 yes. the chelsea version no. can't believe kante is nearly 30

The poll isn't asking who is better player, it's who you'd prefer in our team currently. I think Ndidi is absolutely perfect in his role for us currently.
Spudulike Posted 19 June 2020 Posted 19 June 2020 Let's hope that Wilf is completely over his injury. Clearly rushed back far too quickly but the lock down rest has hopefully allowed proper healing time.

Wolfox Posted 19 June 2020 Posted 19 June 2020 Either would do me just fine…. it’s just unreal that we replaced one with the other… Kante got the nod for me…
Stuntman_Mike Posted 19 June 2020 Posted 19 June 2020 As much as I love Kante as a person and a player and what he did in his time here, I'd choose Ndidi. He is a current player who wants to be here right now and is equally as good on his day.
MPH Posted 19 June 2020 Author Posted 19 June 2020 Ask me on 3 different days and i’d probably give a different answer each time...
Blue ROI Posted 19 June 2020 Posted 19 June 2020 Kante from 2015-17 is the superior player no question but given the age of both and on current form its N'Didi. He could be a real superstar in the years ahead.
