Conga Conga Congerton

Recommended Posts

This is repeating a point others have made but can't see a thread about it.

There were some concerns when Congerton came in over his previous transfer record.

Unfortunately it seems to be bearing out a lot of the targets we are linked with. Overpriced and unimaginative - Tarkowski, Vestergaard, David Brooks, Said benrahma.

Looking no further than what is right in front of our nose, these are players who won't significantly improve us and we will have to pay well over the odds.

What happened to the Leicester way which scouted Mahrez and Kante from obscure leagues abroad for peanuts, gems from abroad at cut prices like Ndidi and Soyuncu, lower league players with potential like Maguire and Vardy, promising youth team players like James and Drinky. Planning for the future buying players with potential and allowing them to grow at LCFC.

Instead we seem to have scrapped this and are just going for the flavours of the month and paying through the nose for them like all the other shit mid table clubs. And we will end up like them with a lot of overpaid rubbish on our books the way this is going.

Wish he would conga his way right out of this club so we could get somebody in with a bit of imagination who knows what he is doing.

Imagine complaining about congerton when he hasn't actually made any signings yet.... (Bennett is someone Rodgers wanted for a long time)

We are looking like we are going for a barca starlet, Brooks who is a easy step up from gray who will be going, the big lad from celtic who is a proven striker

We are challenging for top 4 top 6 and in Europe now, we aren't plucky little leicester who scrapes around hoping for 400k bargains!!! I suppose you want Pearson back too?

We are a big club now and need to do business like it

There is not one single reliable source that links us to any of those players. We never do sign the players that the tabloids link us to, I don't know why anyone bothers getting excited over them.

The reason why the tabloids in this country link us to players 'right under our nose' is because they're the only ones they've heard of!

The only player linked to us by any reputable source so far this summer is Francisco Trincao, who by all accounts looks a fantastic player and we'd all be delighted to have him.

You can't attack a head of recruitment for signings that haven't been made.

:nigel:

This is ever so slightly premature... our recent transfer windows have shown that we are really good at keeping negotiations out of press, and the people that we are linked to by the press never materialise, with suggestions that we were never really interested in the first place.

Absolute nonsense.

We have no idea what the club's targets are. What comes out in the press is rarely going to be info from the buying clubs - it'll be agents and selling clubs trying to drum up interest in their players, and our position in the league/Europa puts us in a prime spot as the 'higher tier but still realistic' club for a lot of these mid-table players to be linked with.

The only link from a solid source so far has been Trincao, who is completely out of left field and a very exciting potential signing - completely against the 'overpriced and unimaginative' tag that you've applied. Besides which, there's nothing wrong with being 'unimaginative' and going for the obvious signing if it'll be an improvement on what we've got - Tielemans, Maddison etc were obvious, unimaginative and overpriced but have still been fantastic for us.

You talk about 'the Leicester way' but that also scouted Diabate from an obscure league, cut-price gems like Mendy/Benkovic, promising youth players like Loft, Moore and Pascanu. For every hit there's plenty of misses as well.

And last of all, we're only ten days into a 70-day window, FFS. Give the man a chance.

Let's be honest here... As much as we think we might, none of us know our arse from our elbow when it comes to scouting and transfers at a top-level football club. Lots of the stuff spouted on here is pure pish. We don't really know the day-to-day of this this guy's role at the club.

Seems a little unfair that he gets unwarranted stick on here considering they've done pretty much done **** all in terms of transfers since his arrival.

If it goes tits up next season with a boatload of minging signings, then maybe we can ask questions.

Until then, let's give the bloke a chance, eh?

In a usual window, I end up saying things like, "Give them a chance," "They haven't even put the shirt on yet," etc., but this is new. We haven't even made a signing yet. Have some patience. We don't really have any idea who we're signing yet. Even if it does end up being underwhelming names who people turn their noses up at, I think you've got to at least give them a game or two. It might be that this is the right club for certain players who failed to impress elsewhere. You don't know until you've seen them play in our colours. No point worrying about imagined problems.

When we signed Vardy, Mahrez, James, Drinky, we were a championship team.

When we signed Kante we were relegation favourites.

We are NOT going to be able to pick up these little steals anywhere near as much for two reasons, 1. We are a top 5 EPL team and we are expected to pay a premium. 2. We play at a much higher level now.

We are not the same club that we were, why should our business model be the same?

I also find it very strange that you use Maguire as an example of us buying well and Brooks as an example of us buying poorly, they are very similar in many ways as potential signings. Both one of the better players in a relegated team and looking for a return to the EPL and both much cheaper than they would have been a year previously.

Can we just delete this @Mark @Bert

I'm as skeptical about Congerton as everyone else but it's way too early for this.

They're not even players we're actually definitely trying to sign, it's just players we're linked to in papers and they're the same players we've been linked to in papers since like 1983 or something.

If you're judging our heads of recruitment by who the press think we're signing then Walsh should have been sacked for paying 120m on Troy Deeney or whatever and Congerton should be given the keys to the city for getting Coutinho to come to Leicester.

Read Jordan Blackwell in the Merc today about net spend. If £30 million net spend is correct then you can write next season off. As for BR preferring a small squad it is ludicrous unless the fringe squad players are good enough to challenge the first team players which currently they are well off.
