Cost is relative to the position of the club at the time. I'd say Mills was worse, maybe Kramaric (close call on that one). Point being 25 million is obviously a lot more than we spent on players in the past but relatively it is a pretty standard transfer for a team at our current level.

Also he's still at the club so it would be harsh to judge him until he leaves.

Harsh on Kramaric, the club didn't lose much money on him, he contributed little bits here and there when he played and would of come good if given a run of games, right player, wrong season

I think that might be pushing it a bit, I can think of quite a few worse. Plus there's still time for him to make some kind of impact

Where were you thinking of dropping him from?

would anyone consider keeping him if he is willing to accept a bench role? certainly better than james and all the options in that spot, like gotze, lallana etc.

Lallana is no longer an option.

But I hate to think that we've regressed that much to bring back our own rejects.

Technically he is a good player and looks after the ball well. He wasn’t the player to replace the Drinkwater of 15/16. I feel for him as we’ve ultimately hurt his career. I must regret coming here, even though he’s been paid a good salary. If you were in his shoes, no one is going to pay you £80k a week, so you ride that contract out.

He’ll be 32 when it expires. I can see him going back to Sporting Lisbon.

It's one my biggest disappointment in recent years that we haven't been able to get him settled into the side. Was excellent at Sporting, seems to have had decent loan spells at decent clubs but can't get a game here.

The ship has sailed though and he'll be out on loan until his contract expires.

I just dont get how a player can be so good at Sporting only to be written off so quickly here. I get that the leagues are different, but ffs if you're that good at football that you can be a star at Sporting ****ing Lisbon why can't you eventually adapt here.

I mean one of the things the Sporting fans at work were saying is how how good he is at adapting to different situations and styles of play!

The 6 month enforced break ruined him. Has he been able to come straight in I’m sure we’d have seen the better of him

I'm not convinced. It's more like 4 months, and he'd still be training. He wasn't injured or anything, was he? I don't think it would have made much difference. I'm pretty sure it's the difference in standard or pace of the leagues.

I don’t think the cock up when we signed him helped.

Not to play any football even the reserve games would of meant he was well off the pace.

I don’t think that excuse really flies. No worse than a 4 month injury, in fact much less worse as he could still train. There must be lots of players who’ve suffered such lengthy injuries but once physically fit they manage to regain form. The ones that don’t usually have lingering problems as a result of the injury itself.

2 league goals in 15 games is not really what you want from a record signing. I have no doubt that he was a quality player but just purely based on the impact he made here I think there's an argument for being as bad as silva.

I think the days of the club paying £20m-£30m on players in their late twenties from sub standard euro leagues will be a thing of the past. That should be left to the likes of Everton and West Ham.

The man in no where near good enough for us, we’ve watched him enough to find out he doesn’t have enough athletic ability, end product or bite for a prem player.

As per this, he isn’t suited to the prem. against the top sides the game would bypass him and against the rest, he is physically bullied - it’s the same issue we have with mendy but papy has a little bit of acceleration from a standing start which enables him to make it a decent battle with the guys trying to ease him off the ball.

he would be an asset in the Europa league but we aren’t keeping him and losing the income from a loan deal for that.

There were two losers and one winner from that August day - Chelsea lost the most but we really couldn’t afford to lose anything, especially on the field!

Well Bruno Fernandes didn't seem to have too many problems

The problem for Kramaric was that the idiot Pearson played him as a lone striker, a role that he was not suited to

Bruno Fernandez scores 100 penalties and now everyone talks like he’s a hybrid of Messi and Pele. He was poor in the majority of their matches last season but the stats were skewed by his goal contribution stats.

..probably a good enough reason for UEFA to take a look at their ruling!!!

To have denied him the chance to compete, in any form, in the period he was banned was a detriment to his career.

The other take on his time here, is that people seem to forget the performances, which showed he was not up to speed with the Premiership and his physicality coupled with being robbed of the ball due to an inability to move the ball quickly and simple passes going astray, did not help his case for continued inclusion within the team.

Playing on the Continent suits him better.

Lump on him for the golden boot next season, he's guaranteed at least 38 from a penalty every game!

In terms of impact, our worst signing ever, in light of his transfer fee. Achieved absolutely nothing for us sadly.

Errr no. Slim takes that mantle. Silva had 6 months of nerves knowing he had to prove himself and that would do psychological damage to the strongest of players. He has proved himself on the continent more than adequately and for his national team too. Slim was a flop from day one.
