Turkish football expert on Talk Sport now. About to talk about our new signing.

Just tuned in too late and missed it. What did he say?

TalkSPORT just currently doing 'Under' puns. The tabloids (and Lineker) are going to have a field day on this.

Serie A will be more fun with them : Stories about five new foreign acquisitions, both young and experienced, with a great talent and something special in common

Cengiz Ünder
20-year-old Turkish winger, will play for Roma

The Roma championship does not seem to be starting in the best way, despite the fact that the Italian season seems at least to start more open than usual. The team has badly lost the last two summer friendlies played against two Spanish teams - Sevilla and Celta Vigo - and speaking of the two matches Eusebio Di Francesco, the new Roma coach, said bluntly: "They massacred us, it's it was a defeat from all points of view ». Di Francesco is asking for reinforcements from the company, the latest missing from the list of requests agreed with the executives at the beginning of the summer. Among those already arrived, the most exciting and talented seems to be the Turkish Cengiz Ünder.

As with Centurion at Genoa, Roma fans probably expected a better known name to improve the squad. Ünder is very young, his career for now has only one season as a starter in a first division championship, and a minor one like the Turkish one. But in the observers' reports of many European teams Ünder is marked as a talent with great prospects ahead of him.

this is exactly where we are though isn't it. if he had put up the number KDB had for the last couple of years, we wouldn't be even mentioned in the same breath as him as a potential signing.

You're right, and we're way off that top-tier financial level.

If we keep on developing players and adding value the way we are, and manage to stick to this policy of only one significant sale per season, very quickly we'll have a squad stuffed with talent and we'll be the clear next most attractive proposition to the big boys.

I'd say this signing would be further evidence that is becoming the case.

Last season he was the protagonist of the great championship played by Istanbul Başakşehir - second behind Besiktas - which managed to make its way into a city where football has been "occupied" for years by three much richer, stronger and more prestigious clubs. As a winger Ünder has scored 9 goals in 40 appearances this season, to which must be added a dozen decisive assists.

On his arrival in Rome he was unknown even to the new teammates. After a couple of weeks of preparation, Daniele De Rossi, the captain, said: "I had never heard of him, but he is making us understand why Roma believed in it." Ünder is just over 1.70 meters tall and certainly does not make physical presence one of his best qualities. He is one of those very quick players in everything: in thought, without the ball, in running, shooting and ball and chain. In attack situations it always comes back in some way useful, because it knows how to throw long with precision, moves well in tight spaces and is able to load great shots, even from a distance, even if it can only use a small square of the field.

Yes.  But Turkish players are generally known by their first names.  Except Caglar.
