The system was kind of forced but the personnel used in hindsight was wrong. Luke Thomas ought to have been on the bench at the bare minimum as although he has weaknesses his ability going forward was something we badly needed today with so little in the middle to disrupt the shape of the opposition, that is I tegral to how we normally play. Likewise Iheanacho is pretty essential in a 3-4-1-2 when we might have to contend with a low block but worst of all was our defending. Soyuncu and Evans were a fcukin disgrace today.

Fair point, but he is not the sort of player who can change a game. I didn't think he did too bad, he was about the best of a poor bunch.

Credit to them, player well and exploited our weaknesses perfectly.

 

Some perspective though, we are missing 3 of our 4 best CM’s and a world class player in Ricardo. That particular combination all missing will hamper us.

Well that was hard work. Top marks for WHU - they had a plan and executed it superbly. The best I’ve seen them look, in terms of organisation, in a very long time time. We were ponderous. We simply have to move the ball quicker than that. Individually and collectively, we were very poor. Pass marks for Youri and Mendy, who at least tried and showed something of their talent. Everyone else was below par. Barnes invisible. Perez is a waste of a shirt and Justin is not a reliable PL left-back any time soon, I’m starting to think.

The perfect away performance from West Ham. Completely denied us any space and were excellent defensively. They then had pace and power on the break. Not enough quality from our midfield to break it down and our system failed once they got two ahead.

A bit of perspective is that we were missing quite a few of our standout players: N’didi; Maddison, Ricardo along with Praet who’d started the season so well. That, lack of quality, really showed today when we needed to chase the game and also exposed our lack of depth compared to the other sides who finished last season in the top six.

Very poor performance, but hopefully the international break gives us a chance to sort things out and get a few players back.

They weren’t set up superb they just did what teams need to do against us. We cannot defend crosses into the box and we leave Evans and Soyunchu will be left exposed so we are easy to hit on the break. So what did West Ham do? Sit in and when they can, cross and counter. 
 

I want Rodgers to actually make us look solid even if it means being boring for a bit. If not we are going down the table fast - the amount we concede cannot continue

And Praet. He's been a key reason we've looked so good since the start of the season. His mobility and interplay with Tielemans and Castagne has meant we haven't really missed Maddison - until today.

Usual tosh. but Brendan, you didn't change it in the second half until it was too late, again! 

But he's exactly right. Loads of times first half we failed to deliver a quality through ball when there was oceans of space in behind. Time and time again the passes were underhit and imprecise or we chose the wrong passing option. We also did lack the 'intensity' and speed, again, often caused by imprecise passes, poor reading of movement and poor first touches, where Perez unfortunately was one of the worst culprits.

Soyuncu and Evans did not perform; what is Rodgers meant to do? Employ Danny Ward as an emergency centre back? The players are accountable for this, just as they were accountable for the win last week. The Rodgers hate train is pathetic and is seemingly symptomatic of our success in recent years. We had a bad game, we move on.

Hate is a strong word, mate. Rodgers was tactically out-thought today. Setting up like we did against Man City away for a home game against West Ham is hard to fathom. I think he must put his hand up and protect his players by accepting responsibility. He set them up for that today.

Think there are too many overreactions here, just as there were last week.

 

A couple of shit defensive mistakes (Soyuncu in a 3 at the back needs to go in the bin for a while) that were well punished, and then it's very difficult to recover without much creativity on the pitch against that defensive setup.

 

I don't understand the fascination with pinning Barnes and Perez against their back three, we do it far too often. They were always going to restrict Justin and Castagne, so you have to drop at least one of Perez or Barnes back to pick the ball up from deep and drive with it. Perez picked up some handy positions in space between midfield and defence in the first ten minutes and then he stopped doing it, very strange. We certainly miss the ability to dribble from deep that Maddison brings.

 

9 points from four is very good, we've broken our big team curse, players continue to return from injury. We move on

Good.  He comes across like he wants to be everyone's mate most of the time but he's the manager.  When players put in a shift like that he needs to do his job and bollock them rather than sugar coat everything
