To repeat something said before:

"I guess a large part of the debate around NHS reform comes down to whether or not one views the life and health of a human being as more than the proper position of a full stop in an expenses spreadsheet."

If you try to make such a system more "efficient", sooner or later you will affect health outcomes and the cost will be felt in both health and lives. Don't get to attribute perfect judgement in such a situation - that's simply not possible with a system of that size.

How well that sits clearly is down to the beholder

This is an interesting point, and why as a finance exec I have turned down the chance to work in health and aged care several times, not wanting to be in the position where the balance to find was profit vs care.  In commercial sector we strive to find a position where the value of our products and services is shared between us as the supplier and the customer business as the end user.  Where the end user is a patient, that balance is harder to find.  Some would argue that the best care should be provided always, but of course that is not possible for all but the wealthiest private payers.

Your comment about size is interesting too - I suspect the benefits of scale which being the NHS should give you are in fact not achieved - in spending power etc, which the disbenefits - complexity, slow decision making, poor outcomes due to lack of accountability - are endemic.  Personally I would split it into care giving and commercial services.  Both bodies public, but one nationwide focussed on providing the infrastructure - facilities, support services etc, and the other localised focussed on health outcomes containing all the medical professionals and support.

I once had a girl - Sharon Fruit.

Who looked great in her birthday suit.

Afore-named Persimmon -

Which didn't suit women

But naked she was truly a beaut.

She left me quite mellow

When she played on my cello

And blew a fine tune on my flute

Had some of these at a golf club today. Absolutely awesome. Just like the old Brannigans Roast Beef & Mustard back in the day. I liked them so much I bought 4 more bags to take home with me lol

I think I’ve moaned about this before but leadership is the most overrated ****ing thing in football.

Vardy and Schmeichel witnessed a lot of this decline and did **** all because they’re players employed by the club.

Particularly given "leadership" is a bit of a nebulous concept and I'm pretty sure what a lot of people mean when they talk about "leaders" is players who shout a lot and show higher than average levels of pashun. Funny seeing the thread about losing Morgan because when he was here there were always complaints about him not being a good captain because he wasn't constantly screaming at people.

Bit simplistic. Any entity, including a football team, has to have a purpose/set of values and a leader will ensure that is carried through whatever the situation on the pitch. See lampard and terry at mourinho Chelsea and Henderson at Liverpool. Unfortunately we don’t seem to have any values and no one on the pitch that will see it is implemented if we’re 5-0 up or down

It is simplistic yes, that's what I mean. Standards at a football club are important - see what's happening to us in the absence of any - but I don't really think the way you set and maintain them is by simply identifying and signing Leaders and then having them Lead.

Having one of my twice yearly thoughts where I think

"What happened to Keri Hilson?" Circa 2008 I thought she was set for a long and fruitful career at the top, but the Knock You Down hitmaker seemed to vanish. Now it seems she thinks 5G makes you gay and being vaccinated means you run on Windows 98.

Just watched a quite upsetting video of a flag being placed on a lampost out side an older gentleman's house. He then was taunted for asking the guys up the ladder to not place the flag there.

Utterly bizarre behaviour of the flag-shaggers.

Seeing the BBC in a tailspin is hilarious

They DO absolutely have a leftish agenda running through their veins. I don’t particularly mind it, so long as the public can see it

I'd recommend watching Reuters (and challenge anyone to find bias there) and comparing the two.

Edit: for people who actually just want no bias (as opposed to only bias they like), then Associated Press does good Web articles as well.

Is anyone else suffering from this prolonged, persistent wet cough and shortness of breath?

I've had it for over a week now and it really is debilitating. The cough keeps me awake most of the night, and I cough until I'm physically sick.

I feel constantly run down and tired. Covid test was negative. And now Mrs Para has it too. :ill:

I believe the NHS have said it’s the worst flu season since 2017 (and I was bed bound for a week with probably the worst flu I’ve ever had back then), so it’s probably this nasty flu and not Covid.

Several friends have mentioned having a variety of awful lurgies recently. The other half has had a debilitating 'productive' cough and little sleep for 3 weeks. Antibiotics and steroids have so far failed to shift it.
