Will we finish in the Top 4

I got slated last season when our performances dropped after the covid break and I said we wouldn’t make top 4...

our confidence had gone and we were 2nd best in many games in the run in..

 

it’s going the same way unfortunately.

we lacked any desire in the first half yesterday and for a team in 3rd place with so much at stake , that’s worrying..

also what is amazing as a Leicester fan is we are going into a end of a season with 7 games left 3rd in the league and in a FA cup semi final. To be in with a chance is amazing, to be up there again is fantastic.

West Ham was a blow. Looking at the league table, I'm not filled with confidence. 

 

However...

 

The players were in this exact spot last season. They have experienced it.

 

Now, some of them might be thick footballers, living their lives in a millionaire's bubble with a lose grasp of reality – as we saw over the weekend – but most of the players we have seem to be "good eggs". Rather than fecking about in casinos or having a party after each time we lose a game, all they are interested in is being decent in what they do, to play at the highest level possible and – at least occasionally – experience winning or achieving something. That's their driving force. Not the other bits that come with it.

 

For every James Maddison, Ayoze Perez (clear talent, but questionable attitude to professionalism) or Hamza (delusions of grandeur) there is a Schmeichel, Tielemans or a Ndidi (I could name more).

 

I still think we have enough of the latter ones, to scrape through to top 4. My faith is in them.

 

And if Maddison hasn't learnt a significant lesson, there is real danger that he will piss his career away. For bigger clubs, conduct off the pitch is just as important as the performances on it, and Maddison is very close to having his named crossed out. He's already got two high-profile strikes against his name. Worth reading Henry Winter's column in today's The Times.

It's in our own hands still and we still play a lot of our rivals. No better way to get ahead then getting a result against them.

It does feel a lot like last season, however what feels different is that we have more of a chance this time around to turn the tide back in our favour.

 

Last season we failed to win any of the first three matches after the restart and as a result we started to panic. With two games a week and the injuries starting to mount up it felt like we never had a chance to catch our breath and turn the momentum back in our favour.

 

It feels like we are at a similar point to last season, but a match or two earlier and with not quite so much of a hectic schedule. We also have deeper squad this season, have dealt with injuries fairly well and have a run of fixtures coming up that allows (but far from guarantees) the sort of form that could turn the narrative back in our favour and put us in good spirits going into the final few matches, as opposed to feeling like we were already beaten like we were last season.

 

Ignoring the semi-final for now, if we beat West Brom it will do us the world of good, even if all other results go against us.

I agree with most of this bar the highlighted bit. Those 4 games after the restart were just as favourable on paper as they are now (so we are in no better position today than last year, just on that very point). We messed it up last year and never recovered (if we would have held on at Watford things would have been different no doubt).

 

However, I am more confident that we can take some more points this time round. 7 points has to be the absolute minimum and we should really aim for 9-12 points but I can't see us going unbeaten over those 4 games.

Yeah, my point being that we went into those first 4 after the restart quite relaxed, but after 2 or 3 started to panic. It feels like we are at that point already, before we go into the favourable matches, so have more of an opportunity to play ourselves back into form and confidence.

West Ham was a bad result but the next 5 games are very winnable.

 

Get through those with near maximum points ans see where we are come the final 3 games.

As bad a result as it was on Sunday having watched it back last night we were unlucky to be 3-0 down in some ways. Wasn’t like West Ham were creating chances galore.  It was a flat poor game to watch and West Ham were flattered to go 3 up. We were then flattered in return with how the last twenty mins went as West Ham froze and invited pressure, something that for me rules them out for top four. When the pressure is on they panic. 
 

The game this weekend is important for the league campaign.  A bit like the Villa semi last season seemed to be a pivotal moment so could this game. The deflation of a defeat could really kill us. Hopefully we will come back to life and win well. Have a final to look forward to and get that winning feeling back. We badly need Maddison back as the goals have dried up for us with the exception of Nacho. Maddison creates and scores. He maybe unpopular at the moment but that’ll soon be forgotten when he bags a couple.

Excellent result for the boys today winning against Crystal Palace providing us with a 7 point cushion against West Ham. We are getting closer and closer guys! Keep the faith and in Brendan Rodgers we trust!

So looking at that then, even in a worst-case with Everton winning their game in hand we have the 7 point cushion. Huge going into two more winnable-on-paper games.

I know that sounds like tempting fate, but we've just come through two games against historic bogey teams of ours with six points. I think the boys know that this is the time to consolidate the top four spot and take a little pressure off us heading into the tough final three.

 

I still think 69 points (nice ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ) is the threshold where we can really relax, and if we do what we are fully capable of and go into those last three just needing the one point, i'll be resting easy.

That being said, I think we'll spank Spurs before we parade the FA Cup in front of our first home crowd in over a year, so in reality we just need four points before Manure.

Not sure anyone relaxes on the threshold of a 69. I could be wrong, but I’m not.

Amazing how quickly it can all change! 2 games ago it was all doom and gloom as West Ham closed the gap to 1 point, now on Friday we can open the gap to 10 points!

Merseyside Reds and the Salford Devils taking points off each other would be kinda good news too. Keeps the Scousers just about in the hunt so the pressure turns onto the teams around them, and potentially puts us 3 behind the Mankees if we beat the Saints, with them still to play.

GD will be looking promising to overhaul them with a win too if we can beat Southampton by multiple goals (I know I know, it's hard to resist mentioning THAT game but it's becoming Godwin's Law at this point).

It does seem weird to be looking up the table rather than down after the heat was turned up so much with our back to back losses, but I mean why not? This feels completely different to last season, even with the tighter points gap. The momentum is with us now. That's 3 in a row and 2 in the league, with two more average teams to come before the big run-in. It's not unfeasible with two big performances that we could be going into that game with second place in sight.

If Chelsea win Champions league and Arsenal win Europa league (don’t laugh) 4th place will miss out if Chelsea finish 5th in league. So to make it easier We need Real Madrid to beat Chelsea in semi final. And then 4th place guarantees CL.

Manchester City, or PSG should win the Champions League.

This is how quickly things change in football

I’m getting a bit greedy now. I want it done and dusted in the next two games, whereby come the Man Utd match we are in the enviable position of being able to rest players for the Cup final a few days later. Two good Friday night results and Man Utd beating Liverpool this weekend and the deal is all but done. Be great to have top four done and have the luxury to make a few changes against United that benefits us for the cup final.
