George Elek hasn't got a clue, Luton at this stage had done nothing of note, Burnley started awfully, and Sheffield United weren't up to much either.

Tbf Burnley were playing just about the best club side on the planet.

He was talking about last season. They picked up 6 points from their opening 5 league games. After that they took the league by storm though.

Who knew the Leicester Mercury was so influential.

If anyone has watched that documentary on Burnley, I believe they was 16th at the end of October! They just kept drawing games.

They were 16th after 5 games, went into the playoffs after the final weekend of August, never left it. Went top in late October and were never dislodged

If ever the ills of contemporary populism and the world that we now inhabit could be better captured in one statement.

Yeah absolutely. I'm explaining it but I'm not at all condoning it.

Well that documentary really egged that on then, they made it look like they couldn't buy a win. I had to go and check, I did notice Cov at the bottom in October tho.

Quite - I realised that.

We're not gonna see anything exciting or special until we're not forced to play sup-par players our of position in the roles that will actually lead to chances.

I'd expect we'll start to really start showing our true potential coming into October.

The shoots of excitement are there, but once we've put together a team that has genuine creativity going forwards we have some potential to really blow some teams away this season.

Of course if we don't it'll more likely be basketball games and who takes their chances on the day. We've been fortunate in the first 2 league games to come out as winners.

Yeah the documentary conveniently cut out every win from the first few months and made it look like every game finished 1-1. A bit of creative license was taken I think

the not the top 20 boys decided pre season we'd gone about it the wrong way buying Winks and Coady instead of EFL players they had us 4th behind Leeds, Southampton and Ipswich in part because we'd lost stars and Leeds and Soton hadn't

Posted

Even Reading lost their first game of the season when they broke the record. The big thing is that game was one of only two they lost all season.

The likelihood is that we'll start well in terms of results because of who we're playing; no disrespect to any of the teams listed, but Huddersfield, Cardiff, Rotherham and Hull won't have been on many pundits' predicted promotion lists or antepost betting slips. The only side we've played who are likely to be contenders come May is Coventry, and we could easily have lost that one. I suspect we would have done away.

The nature of our first two league performances haven't painted a picture of a side who'll pick up a three figure points total. That isn't pessimism, it's the truth. We aren't going to learn much until at least mid to late September by the time all squads are settled and ours are fully acclimatised to Enzo's style with the likes of Coady and Casadei fully embedded into the XI.

Early signs are that once that happens, we'll spank most teams in this division. We simply have too much quality, fitness, nous and depth for perhaps 16-20 teams in this division. I do expect a handful of very satisfying 5-0 wins where we look the absolute bollocks.

The real tests will be against teams like Southampton, Ipswich, Boro and West Brom, and we haven't played anyone like that so far. It is too early to make a judgement despite positive signs.

The best case scenario is that all of these teams beat each other and we have a good record against each of them, leaving a gap between us and them as they slug it out for the remaining promotion spot and playoffs. It's not impossible that happens as we have a lot of big game experience in the squad who've done it at PL and even European level.

I'd suggest some of you untwist your knickers somewhat.

All the pre-season talk was that we were set to blitz the league and pummel anyone in our wake.

So far we've been quite fortunate to have won two games out of two.

That's all he's saying. People will have seen our results without knowing our performances.

Yeah whilst suggesting previous years saw those promoted playing total football from matchday one which is false.

Burnley were exceptional in their first game against Huddersfield last season.

Granted they came away with the same 1-0 win as we did but they absolutely annihilated them and should have won by a big margin.
