Easy to see until you're scrambling for tickets for the final, then everyone loves "the magic of the cup".

I’ve not seen anyone say that they don’t want us to win it. But for me it isn’t the competition that it once was. I wish that weren’t so but the money derived from PL survival or European progress means that teams across the PL don’t afford the competition the respect that they once did

It’s not an either/or. Winning teams keep winning. Being dumped out a cup can often kill a team’s momentum.

It is an either or for any sort of interesting discussion

I may be wrong but I guess that a thread titled “Do you want us to win the FA cup and finish in the top 4” would be a little predictable

So we have discovered

  1. Old school romantics want the Magic of the Cup
  2. Cynical millennials want the Reputation top 4 brings

Is that about it?  lol

I choose option 3

The two aren't mutually exclusive, but it's hard to deny that going out of the FA Cup will boost our chances of the top 4 in some way. It obviously won't guarantee it, but it will increase the chances. That is more important to me at the minute than winning the FA Cup behind closed doors.

We've lost Praet and Justin to long-term injuries in FA Cup matches this season. More matches = more chance of injuries, more fatigue, more distraction and less time on the training pitch preparing for matches. One or all of those things could prove pivotal in the race for the top 4.

There is also a small part of me that doesn't want us to win the cup this year. I really look forward to the FA Cup in normal seasons and the main reason for that is the excitement of potentially reaching a stage that we haven't reached in my lifetime. If we win it this year, behind closed doors, that will take the edge off that excitement once we are back to normal.

Having said all of that, of course I would love to see us beat Man Utd on Sunday, if not purely just to see us beat Man Utd.

I agree re the FA Cup behind closed doors. I love the Cup usually, look forward to the draws, going to new grounds, desperate to finally get an FA Cup trip to Wembley. It all feels empty this year though. I’ve watched all the games on TV, but don’t feel so involved. A behind closed doors final would be a real anticlimax after all the years of wanting to get there. With COVID restrictions we probably couldn’t even watch with fellow fans in the pub, and there’d be no city-wide celebrations like after the title win.

However, I would love another Champions League campaign next season, with full stadiums and trips abroad (hopefully). The last one will always live long in the memory :)

Any other year I'd rather have the FA Cup but this year Top 4. FA Cup with no fans just isn't the same. A European tour after this shit show of a year is more appealing and puts us in a better position for long term success.

Given I’m in my early 30s and I know some of the posters who want to win the cup in this thread are younger than me

European tour occurs with winning the FA Cup.

Not CL but next season the EL isn’t the marathon it currently isn

Despite having the cruel images of Tony Book and co parading the cup around Wembley seared into my memory, I still wouldn't swap an FA Cup triumph for a top 4 finish. The longer term ambition of positioning ourselves to compete at the top level, both at home and abroad, will be best achieved by CL qualification this season. Winning the FA Cup, sweet as that would be, would not significantly enhance those future prospects. It might simply become a fleeting triumph, a fond memory to sustain us through leaner times ahead if we were to miss the chance, once again, to build something bigger. However, the two are not mutually exclusive. I think we can afford to be a little greedy. With players recovering from injury and the fixture list thinning out, why not both? As Leicester fans we all know that dreams can come true!

Yeah, I don't do crowds.

There's level of simmering low-level agg in this thread about what seems to me to be a personal choice (as much as preferring to listen at any given point to, I dunno, Springsteen or Prince) that's a little bit hard for me to get my head round.

I'm partly framing it as a 'personal choice' issue as a gesture of good will, because if you reduce it to the empirical end result of us either winning the FA Cup or playing in the CL the latter is a clear winner

I don't want to go round in circles on this again, all I'll say is that Spurs make the CL often and don't win anything, and we laugh at them. I don't want to be like Spurs.

Winning the FA Cup is NOT beneath us. My view is firmly pragmatic. CL should mean we don’t sell any players AND strengthen the squad. Without CL we are more open to poaching and less likely to build, therefore less likely to attain future success.

I want us to win the FA Cup, but I’m willing to put that back a season or two so we can build a squad capable of fighting on multiple fronts.

It should mean it, but it is no guarantee - as it wasn't when we literally won the league. Therefore I just do not get the argument that we should defer trying to win things any time we have the chance to.

As @Leicester_Loyal pointed out in this thread and I did the other day in a different one, there will always be an excuse for the league to be prioritised over the Cups - no matter where we find ourselves at this stage of the season. But it's a poor excuse to come up with any time we're three games from completing the missing puzzle piece.

Well I don't think many people think it's beneath us - I contend that that's very much your interpretation. As for getting demoralised by what other people say... Come on, are you that sensitive that you're affected that deeply by people that disagree?

I empathise with tiredness at repeating yourself, but you're not alone in this. I too tire at people who can't, won't or don't read with any care, but I'm going to stop short of unnecessary epithets because they're that way.

It's nothing to do with me being sensitive and everything to do with feeling like I'm not really in touch with my fellow Leicester supporters nowadays. Almost everyone I know in real life would prefer trophy wins to finishing fourth in the Premier League every single season, yet that doesn't tally with what I see on here. I just find the attitude of "oh well, we'll win it when we're strong enough to compete for everything" to be massively self-defeating, and also slightly arrogant too.

OK. Well I'm not saying that, you can be sure of that. As for what's said by a few people on here, I don't think that's necessarily representative, so you might not be as out of touch as you fear.

Top 4 is more likely to bring long term success so it has to be that. Unfortunately the quality of player you can expect to attract goes up if you enter the champions league. Not so much the FA Cup.

The top players still want to play in the FA cup & win..!!

Oh..it's not all about money..but holding showing, sharing the Silverware with the town & fans you represent.and they in turn will always take those memories away..

I don't believe the top clubs and players don't care..they keep on fcuking winning it..Trophies gives you history!!

Sorry the most nonsense discussion on a football forum..

using Squad/reserves or not...

They play to win...1 tick, brings two,you grow to like the feeling,it alone won't bring new top layers, but start them to get thinking..."maybe"

We ain't started yet....140years, we have just started to kick off at that higher level...No substitute for Silverware ..!!!

Again players, play to win..

Manutd already regret that infamous call..It's just time heals, but even with

their fanatical fans..Black marks stick!!

Long term success is winning trophies. You don't get a trophy for coming fourth.

Making the CL not very often at all and winning the league 5 years ago is 'not being like Spurs' enough for me, at least for now

Imagine the open top bus parade up London Road, with 200,000 people of all shapes, colours, backgrounds joyous together in Viccy Park, where Fosse started it all.

But most importantly imagine the free 'Winners' crisps.

Can a 4th place in the league deliver that?

Top players want champions league football and don't care if you win the FA Cup if you aren't in the champions league :dunno: winning the FA Cup doesn't bring them in.
