Now we’re out of Europe there’s no reason that we can’t do both.

Tough one for me.

We probably have the best squad I’ve seen in my lifetime. We need to capitalise in this period as we’re not sure when we’ll be here again. Nobody will remember top four finishes in years to come, but an FA Cup win is in the history books forever.

I do understand the thoughts around needing to get top four and continuing to build and we might get more chances in cups if we retain our squad. I don’t, however, think it’s such a discussion now with only 3 games to win it. I’m never one for leaving any competition early, but can see that exiting the Europa had enhanced our top four chances. That was the one that was probably best to fall given our depleted resources

This is missing the point isn’t it? Getting top 4, consistently, is about what it allows us to become, what is allows us to build, not a trophy sure, but potentially so much more.

I hope you’re right, but last time we qualified for the CL Kante left for a team not in the Champions League and our signings were awful. You probably also underestimate what proving that we’re a team that you don’t have to leave to win trophies might do for player retention.

Ultimately the answer is both and at this stage in the season I don’t think that one necessarily needs to distract from the other

The team was seen differently back then even when we won the title... people felt we would just fall back, now that we are sustaining it players will see that and we are actually more attractive now then back then. Add to that the new training ground and all. We are bigger now

Not controversial though is it. Most of our fans seem to be up for becoming the next Spurs rather than actually winning stuff these days. Weirdos.

Didn't we discuss this sensibly before? Why characterise anyone that disagrees as a weirdo? Why the putdowns? It helps nobody.

minboggling for me that anyone would choose 4th.... fourth!!... over a cup WIN

edit,

having thought about it.. im going to guess that its a generational thing. under 45... top 4... over 45 FA cup?

We've never won the cup. Four finals and lost them all. Champions League football is really better than lifting a trophy for the first time?

Which is better for the club longer term?

edit: firmly in the both please camp :D

I'd rather finish top 4 this season than win the FA cup. They'll be other chances in the FA cup and I'd rather we did it in a packed house at Wembley. It would be magical to go back next season (fingers crossed) to champions league football at the King power. Thoughts?

Not controversial. Without champions League it will be harder to hang on to our best players and improve the squad.

Winning a trophy we haven't won in 137 years would be proving ourselves.

You'd have to pretend it's the 'same' trophy it was for most of those 137 years. More like the Squad Depth Cup now.

Because I'm just kind of sick of making the same argument again and again. I do think it's a weird attitude for fans of a club like ourselves to have.

If anyone's seriously offended then  I apologise, but it gets demoralising to see the kind of fanbase we've become when we consider winning the FA Cup somehow beneath us even though we've never actually won it.

Each to their own but with many PL teams not prioritising it and playing under strength teams as a consequence the FA Cup has lost it’s gloss for me.

I’d be happy enough for us to win it but I see CL and the money and transfer options that can bring as having a potentially greater benefit to the club in the years ahead.

Winning the FA Cup is NOT beneath us. My view is firmly pragmatic. CL should mean we don’t sell any players AND strengthen the squad. Without CL we are more open to poaching and less likely to build, therefore less likely to attain future success.

I want us to win the FA Cup, but I’m willing to put that back a season or two so we can build a squad capable of fighting on multiple fronts.

This!!

Top 4 and CL football gives us a great launch pad to sign better players and keep the likes of Tielemans at the club, therefore keeps the club moving in the right direction....

Winning the FA Cup doesn't give any of those benefits.

Top 4 for me without any question.

I love seeing our players and managers lift trophies.

Long term I don't see what's better than winning a trophy. I don't like the fact Leicester have never won the cup and I want that to change.

Absolutely.. the FA Cup is a shadow of what it once was.

A devalued competition that the majority of pl clubs deprioritise.

Well I don't think many people think it's beneath us - I contend that that's very much your interpretation. As for getting demoralised by what other people say... Come on, are you that sensitive that you're affected that deeply by people that disagree?

I empathise with tiredness at repeating yourself, but you're not alone in this. I too tire at people who can't, won't or don't read with any care, but I'm going to stop short of unnecessary epithets because they're that way.

Is that right? If we were not to finish fourth but third does that put us in some kind of co-efficient playground for super league qualification in accordance to the proposals?

No. It just makes the "top six clubs" even less of a valid idea if we finish third.

A squad capable of winning trophies? Like the FA Cup?

Winning the FA cup is the missing piece, no doubt. Getting into Europe consistently is more likely to retain your best players than an FA cup though
