If we think that way then we will remain a second tier club. We have to be more ambitious . We buy players to help us long term . Tielemans , Ndidi , Soyuncu are core players for our future success and should be going nowhere. I have mentioned before, Kanté, McGuire, Mahrez and Chilwell all had other reasons for their moves above money and anyway that is in the past.

It's not up to us though is it? If our players want to go to Man United, Man City, Chelsea or Liverpool and those clubs are prepared to pay large transfer fees then realistically there isn't a lot we can do. Short of matching wages which would be financially disastrous in the long run considering the financial might of these clubs.

Most of the big money transfers with those clubs are from continental sources because top clubs( and we should think of ourselves as one now) do not sell their key players to a rival. The idiot hacks are trying to sell Kane to Man. City etc. at the moment . It just can't happen. The only way our key players leave , is if we stop paying competitive wages or if somebody like Real Madrid come in with a ridiculous offer.

The more I see of this fella, the more excited I'm getting. He's like nothing we have in our midfield right now.

Oh you big tease 😍

I wonder...Edouard would make sense, but perhaps it's someone more out of the blue and into our blue...

We can't offer CL football every season, they all went to teams that effectively can.

They also all went for at least twice what they were earning with us.

McGuire???????

£15mil lol it's dropping every time they mention it. If this rolls on until July Lille will be paying us to take him.

Rodgers says it every chance he gets we can’t compete with those clubs financially now and we won’t will we be able to until we’ve cemented our place as a club that consistently finishes in the European places/challenge for silver ware along with increasing the capacity of our ground.... of course these are boxes we could end up ticking but that won’t be for a few years of consistency.... if you genuinely believe off the back of the last couple of seasons challenging for CL football we’ll be able to ward off massive bids to our players whilst also throwing about the money that’s been mentioned for contracts you’re off your head

Say Man City came in with a bid of 70 or 80 million for Tielemans , would you say well we can' t turn that down can we. That's 45m profit. I guarantee everybody on here would go apeshit . If Barcelona came in with the same offer that would be different , they are not immediate rivals. Ourselves, and clubs like Everton, West Ham , Leeds etc. have got to protect our  assets otherwise this "big six" tyranny will go on forever.

Probably with a pre-agreement that we secure CL football. Gosens likewise won't be anywhere near us of we finish 5th.

I don't think we will get Gosens without CL, but all the talk around Soumare is that it is practically a done deal (CL or not)

I think we are quite lucky in that Lille, the French League and European football in general are in an absolute state financially, so the Prem money we can probably offer a fair bit more in transfer fees and wages than European clubs can at the moment

He wouldn't be signing for us for a few games in a likely solitary CL campaign.

He'll still be joining. CL was never going to impact the players we sign - we'd be operating in the same market that has served us well.

How do you know?

And If you don't know please can you add something like "in my humble opinion" on the end of your posts. Ive always found it annoying and confusing when people post opinions as facts.

Another reminder tonight how much we need added physicality.

We really didn't, everytime we touched a Chelsea player we conceded a foul

Just look again at how Rudiger bossed both boxes - and midfield when he wanted to!

I don't think we'd have got away with any of it
