Scoring against Chelsea is going to be tough. That defence is rock solid. Unfortunately.

I think a lot will depend on whether or not Chelsea need to win their last couple of league fixtures, one of those obviously being against us.

Out of the 3 competitions surely Chelsea will value the champions league above the others. It's a shame really that the Fa cup final is the week before the league finishes and that they effectively have a 2 week rest period before the champions league final.

If they need to beat us and Villa to finish top 4, they may rotate a little for the final with the champions league final in the back of their minds too.

Regarding United, it does favour us a little being played when it is. They now have games Thursday, Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday. That's tournament style fixtures. Ideally what we need is Roma to score a couple of early goals put the jitters up them a little because I can see Ole resting a few for that game being 6-2 up, a couple of early roma goals could make him play his hand and bring some of his big guns on to see the match out, then of course Villa to give them a good game. They're practically guaranteed top 4 anyway, and we know United will see the Liverpool game as a bigger game than the one against us, unless we beat Newcastle and they lose to Villa, because all of a sudden, they're in a place where we could catch them.

Almost seems strange that there's only a couple of week left in the season because it still feels like there's loads left to sort, almost like there's 10 games left, not 4

If it comes down to football then OGS will play his strongest side at villa and against us as he will see those as most likely to deliver three points.  he would play a weakened team against liverpool and hope to get away with a draw

however, given the situation behind the scenes, can you imagine a yanited manager choosing to play a weakened team against liverpool when a victory could mean no top 4 for the scousers ???

This is the sensible approach from the "where am I most likely to get points from" point of view, I think this is a harsh truth.

However. Off the back of fan discontent and historic rivalry, will Ole channel his inner Manc and try to do Liverpool? No idea, but I hope so

The winners here are Liverpool who have a fairly easy run in and now face United who will have played 4 games in a week. This of course means that Leicester are likely to need to win at least 2 of the last 4 games IMO maybe more if West Ham continue in their current form. The main thing is going to be winning against Newcastle the pressure on us in going to be immense hopefully we can show we are better than a year ago,

As  much as I do not like it, this is an infinitely sensible post from an unemotional Man Utd perspective.

Yeah a lot of Red Cafe are saying play full strength against us and not worry about Liverpool! Not ideal

Can only hope that as a "red" Ole see's things through more historically emotional eyes

Hope so. Ole hasn't beat Liverpool in the league yet and this will be his best chance to date.

Absolutely it is but I highly doubt Man United are worried about not finishing 2nd and I think they'd sooner beat Liverpool and potentially deny them finishing top 4 in doing so.

Slight change, but now I agree\ as I am not so sure of the Man Utd hierarchy would agree.

Man Utd are guaranteed top 4 if they win on Sunday are they not?

Not mathematically, but pretty much. They'd be at least 9 points clear with a much better goal difference.

I don't think that really ever happens. The players, manager, staff etc. are not worried about other teams success/failure. The fans will no doubt be.

Man U will want to win all of those games but will rotate their players accordingly taking a risk on some team selections. Realistically:

Roma tonight - Fairly strong but a couple of changes

Villa Sunday - as close to strongest XI

Us Tuesday - a fair few changes I would think

Liverpool Thursday - pretty strong team

Yeah it's pretty much impossible on 70 points with their goal difference. West Ham would need to win every game and Man Utd lose every game with a 19 goal swing and as we play Chelsea that minimises both our maximum points totals.

If I'm Solskjaer I go very weak on Thursday, enough to do the job.

Play rotated team on Sunday. Close to full strength as possible against us and Liverpool.

At which point they will hope 2nd is secured and can chill out a bit.

There’s absolutely no chance they can even play remotely a full strength team for both games! If they do, liverpool will absolutely smack them about because the players will be knackered!

I doubt it. The game against us will be walking pace, as all of our games are. Their major players will be well rested going into our game, so should be able to manage a 60 and a 90

If we can't beat a United team that will be tired or massively different to their usual starting 11 then we don't deserve top 4 anyway. I'm confident we'll get at least a draw, which as long as we beat Newcastle, won't be that bad of a result, but might mean we need another point or two elsewhere.

conspiracy theory time. Glazers and Henry obviously in bed together so pressure will be on to make sure upstarts like us don't get CL. Utd to field full strength against us and cruise to a loss against Liverpool to maximise chances of maintaining the greedy six status quo. If we still beat them and get 4th, they then gift the EL to Arsenal. Man city give CL to Chelsea who have finished 5th.

Ok so its obviously BS but i can see Utd sacrificing the Liverpool game rather than ours as we are their nearest rivals for 2nd place

Plenty of the Man Utd fans now trying to create a sense of injustice in their protestations that got their fixtures delayed/moved, like they were acting for the good of football

Pisses me right off, all the banners were about Glazers Out, not some altruistic higher cause.

Case in point

Taking a stand on behalf of all the smaller teams?  Typical deluded self interested drivel. Most of these "fans protests" are simply a smokescreen to try and avoid points deductions etc.  Oooh look at us, we had nothing to do with it, it was the horrible owners, boohoo. in fact we are so good that we are standing up for the small guys. Vomit inducing.

Fine, protest peacefully against ESL and what their clubs did, but if anyone tries to seriously stop games, threatens opponents team buses or conduct themselves in any sort of violent/threatening way they should be arrested and banned from attending all football grounds for a minimum of 3 years. If the clubs cannot control their "fans" then immediate points deductions (separate from any punishment likely to be dished out for next season)
