I feel sick just seeing the images and listening to the audio

He has a right to the presumption of innocence but he should be stood down immediately pending an investigation (hopefully by the police.). TBF all United fans seem to agree with this.

I hope Harriet is safe and is getting all the support she needs.

Don't see how he can be defended. Anyone doing so is just weak and twisted.

No matter how old the clips are, I hope Harriet gets the support she needs for this trauma.

I can't help but think we've sleepwalked towards this as a society. The mountainous amounts of all types of pornography out there desensitises people, especially those growing up in this era who haven't known a time pre internet pornography. Unfortunately, it 'normalises' all kinds of behaviour. I'm no prude, but the barrage of this stuff available to kids must lead to some of these types of incidents. Yes, there were magazines when I was young, and young men will search out that type of stuff, but now it's so visual, and often it can be brutal. I think some people think this is normal now.

Putting aside the (alleged) physical assault, the use of language and lack of empathy is just as (if not more) worrying. Some (thankfully a massive minority) seem to think behaving like this towards a partner is normal, and on the other side of the coin, some women must be conditioned into thinking they are prudes if they don't go along with demands, given they've also probably seen (rough) pornography at some time too.

Genuinely hope they throw the book at him. I'd say the same about ANY of our players if they did the same thing.

The girls deleted all her Instagram posts now.

this famous footballers thinking because they are a footballer they can have sex when they want is disgusting! Everyone’s mrs has said not in the mood tonight and you just accept it. What goes through their minds is pure arrogance and he needs the book thrown at him and contract torn up. As a dad to a daughter anyone ever did that to mine I’d end up in prison! Pure evil

This is just a really sickening way to wake on a Sunday. There's enough shite going on all around us without this kind of ugly incident.

It genuinely puts you on a downer. Glad there's no games today, honestly don't think I could watch one.

Surely that’s him done as a professional footballer? As someone else has said, he wouldn’t be able to kick a ball without dogs abuse from the stands, regardless of where he went.

Hope the girl gets the support she needs, grim.

This has never been, nor will it ever be acceptable however now, more than ever, domestic violence is in the spot light.

This HAS to be dealt with to the full extent. I dont see any way that it isn't. Once the Domestic violence organisations,  FA and other associations are fully involved in the matter, I dont see Manchester United having any choice but to get rid.

Some serious questions need to be asked if his career survives.

Problem is, that tends to depend on how talented they are, which it obviously shouldn't.

Allan Johnston got another contract when he left prison..

If he is found guilty, whatever his punishment, they will say he's served his time and deserves another chance, when the times comes. I cannot see him ever playing for an elite club again if he's guilty of this, they won't touch him. Can't imagine he'll ever get another cap, whatever else happens.

When this type of thing happens, the law should be able to make him take up a fulltime job, at minimum wage, doing something more useful than kicking a bag of wind around.

Depends doesn't it, look at how long it's taken Giggs to get anywhere near a court for all his accusations.

Which in itself is disgusting

You would like to think that, that's him done as a footballer but I can't help but think of Marcos Alonso who was responsible for the death of a young girl and got away with a fine of less than half a weeks wages. Obviously they were two completely different scenarios but it highlights just how much footballers get away with.

Absolutely horrific. There is no defending that and I hope he receives the punishment he deserves and she is safe and well 😢

What a bully and coward he is 😡

Manchester United put out what seems like a reasonable statement.

But they also signed Ronaldo.  The allegations about him are not as strong but his alleged victim's account is a disturbing read.

She basically said no. And he said he'll do what he wants.

You'd hope so and at England level you'd definitely imagine so

These allegations weren't new, I think this definitely factor into Southgate not picking him and being criticised for it
