I thought this was worthy of its own post after posting something on the Crazy Stats thread a while ago; 

 

Apart from one very obvious outlier we have improved our points tally every single season since we were promoted to the Premier League...

 

2014/2015: 41

2015/2016: 81*

2016/2017: 44

2017/2018: 47

2018/2019: 52 

2019/2020: 62

2020/2021: 66 (so far) 

 

so, 3 questions for the masses:

 

1) Was this a target? Did we do it on purpose? 
 

2) Should this be talked about more or is it all just bollocks unless you finish in a European place? 
 

3) Is there any other team that you know that have done anything similar to this?

Finishing top 4 this year would increase the chances a bit, I'd say.

Man City would have to drop off hugely and Liverpool/ Man U would have to have off seasons. With the recruitment being suggested in the summer we would have the strongest squad we have ever had should we keep who we want to.

Ranieri said in his very first press conference, if we take one more point than we did last season, then that is progress and a good season.

 

The rebuild post-2016 into an established top half and European challenging team was always going to take time, and needed different characters - Shakespeare, Puel and Rodgers all had their uses and we disposed of the first two at the right time

 

For me there will be a point where we peak - I thought last season would be it and we wouldn't get close to CL football again, but here we are. Until we hit that point we have got to enjoy it while it lasts

Assuming we get Champions League so aren't hamstrung recruitment wise, the biggest barrier to this will be replacing Vardy's goals.

I genuinely believe we'll find it hard to improve on this seasons points tally next year, even if we finish on 66 points, that's a fantastic total really.

 

Would be nice to hit 70 in the next 2 years though, maybe even this season:ph34r:

This has been an amazing season, whatever happens now. FA Cup final, win our Europa League group, almost certainly going to get European football next year.

Man City will always be there or thereabouts. 
Man Utd have drastically improved.

Chelsea currently look the best team in the league.

Liverpool will surely come strong again.

Top 4 will be extremely difficult, if not impossible next season.

West Ham also improved lots and Spurs may come good if they sell Kane and reinvest wisely.

If we’re to improve next season there has to be a lot of new additions.

 

 Vardy is coming to the end, Ricardo is well of the pace and may never be the same player again, Barnes and especially Justin have long term injuries, players will be sold and contracts won’t be renewed.

If we can get champions league football and have a summer window where we keep everyone we want to and bring in 4 more players who are at the level of recent additions like Castagne, Soyuncu and Tielemans then absolutely we can challenge again.

 

Our first XI can beat any team in the league on its day, but the problem is often when you look to the bench you see the likes of Perez, Albrighton and Choudhury. Solid enough but can’t be the difference in coming into the side to turn a draw into a win.

 

If our recruitment only throws up a couple of solid players who are decent enough but don’t make a real impact (like Perez and Under) then we’ll be hard-pressed to get top 4 again.

Merit isn’t the same as over achieving , we worked hard and our over achieving was on merit 

 

he took the sum parts and developed a team ethos and structure for the results and points to exceed the value of the sum parts 

 

that’s massively over achieving 

 

he has made players triple in value 

 

he has got us nearly 130 pts in 2 season 

 

he is a genius

Agree with much of this except the last 3 words! I think you said Spurs!
