That's three hours I'll never get back, about time we walked away from the Eurovision bad song or not, its so clear we're not respected. Our sang was bad yes but when comparing to the likes of Germany who honestly showed no interest what so no interest whatsoever to get more points than us just sums up for me. BBC lets just save our money and put it into something useful like... I dunno giving into the NHS for example rather than giving the money to competition that we'll never win again and disliked to hell in.... Oh and thanks for Amanda Holden for making it worse.

3hrs you won't get back? You sound like you were watching it only to see if the UK did well!

Don't the majority of people watch it for the pure randomness -  the awful performances, awkward interviews and illogical voting?

We should embrace getting nil points and see how far we can take it lol most random thing we can find. Send the football fans from the puma advert the other year or something.

Some years I think we are clearly unlucky but this year we were pretty rubbish. Not last place rubbish though lol

I don't know if it's just "they don't like us" or whether Europeans have some unusual taste in music. Even by Eurovision standards there wasn't many where I thought that's not bad actually.

First Eurovision since Brexit.

As for unusual taste in music, I thought the public vote was pretty spot on.

Throw Lemar in there next year, great voice and hasn't been seen for about 10 years. Guaranteed to get us at least 1 point.

We could enter the Rolling Stones or oasis and still get nil pois, cos they just don’t like us. The thing that does it for me is that I can’t recall one song sung in non English that seems to fit the actual melody, there’s always an extra couple of words thrown in, apart from guantanamera .

Maybe we should ask the Mac lads to enter and come up with something representative of the U.K.

I think that's a very simplistic way of looking at it.  If we had Italy's song and performance there's no way we'd have nil points.  Of course we're not exactly going to be European darlings but were we ever?

Our song and performance was beyond bland, we still don't get it.

I agree. We've had about 3 top 5 performances in 20+ years, most of the other times we've been nowhere, pre and post brexit.

I think that the UK, Italy, Spain and France should break away and form their own Eurovision Super League and award Luxembourg a place in the top 4 simply because they did well in the 1960's.

I misheard what it was called imagine my upset when i tuned in to what i believed was the eurovision thong contest.

Id quite happily waste three hours watching that. The UK would still get nil points.

Why was Harry Kane announcing a forthcoming song contest?

I don’t know who’s behind the U.K. Eurovision planning but it’s ran like a Parish council, we know we’re crap and anyone remotely serious wouldn’t touch it but we have too much ego to put out something left field and interesting. As long as I remember it’s been some two-bob slow ballad singer or someone who’s been washed up for a bare minimum of 20 years. I watch it most years but couldn’t tell you who represented the U.K. last year, in fact I only remember Engelbert Humperdinck and that’s because I was shocked we went fvcking Engelbert Humperdinck in the 2010s.

Just send something fvcking weird and fun out. We literally couldn’t be any worse and it would be less embarrassing than the performances of the ‘serious’ artists we churn out annually.

You're right.

There's a very very big sub-set of people as well who always think our entry is absolutely amazing.

I get tribalism. I really do. I rated Gareth Williams for about half a season, but that's something else.

My favourite was the one with the ridiculous dancing (as if there was only one). The song was terrible but it was a hilarious visual spectacle. Ours was dull.

By having our name and flag next to his entry?

But his name. His aura. Pitbull man. He is Mr Worldwide™. Having spent many a year in Poland, their Radio 1 equivalent loves him, as does Lithuania's, based on my 1 taxi ride. That's two large European countries. The rest will follow suit.

I want to make it clear here that I have zero authority on this and so this endorsement is entirely worthless; but I admire your passion and your clear insight in to what makes 'them Europeans' tick. I'm happy to put you in charge of the whole operation. You're clearly a man of words; well crafted words. Are you also a man of action? Acta non verba, my friend. Godspeed and pass my love to Mr Bull.

Didn't seem to be that much overtly political/cultural voting going on. Apart, of course, from the inevitable Greece/Cyprus axis. Even the places where there is some residual good feeling to the UK (Malta, the Netherlands) gave us nothing.

We served up a poor effort. A kind of soul-tinged B-side from the mid 80s delivered unconvincingly by an unattactive singer. And our relentlessly camp, distinctly patronising approach to the whole thing doesn't help.

Like a lot of BBC output these days, authenticity takes a distant second to cliché.
