He will be getting a loan this year; probably in the Championship.

Isn't that the point @moore_94 is making with this thread? Blackburn Rovers?

Blackburn and several other Championship sides reportedly interested in taking Leshabela on loan for the upcoming season

Blackburn Rovers monitoring Leicester City midfielder heralded by Brendan Rodgers

Blackburn Rovers are interested in a loan deal for Leicester City midfielder Khanya Leshabela.

Leshabela, 21, is highly-rated by Brendan Rodgers and it's understood that the Foxes are open to the idea of sanctioning a temporary spell away for the South African.

Rovers, somewhat inevitably, are not the only Championship outfit keen on the midfielder with several reportedly interested in Leshabela, who made his Premier League debut during a 5-0 triumph over Sheffield United in March.

A vibrant, dynamic and physical figure, the box-to-box midfielder has been credited for his tactical understanding and Leshabela thrives off disrupting opposition and initiating attacks. He's been on the periphery of the first-team stage but has found his pathway blocked by the talent ahead of him.

Speaking of Leshabela to the Leicester Mercury, Rodgers said: “He’s a young player who has done really well. I’ve been really impressed by Khanya.

“He has good fitness, a nice touch of the ball. He’s been bright.”

he Leicester managed hinted at a loan move for the 21-year-old prior to the commencement of the 2020/21 campaign but the Premier League side opted to retain Leshabela in light of squad depth concerns.

He's been an ever-present in Steve Beaglehole's Under-23 outfit over the past two seasons and featured in the Foxes 4-0 defeat at Leyland in September against a high-flying Rovers outfit. Where Billy Barr's side went onto achieve a fourth-placed finish in the PL2 Division One table, Leicester were relegated following a final day defeat.

Rovers have also encountered Leshabela in a first-team contest, the youngster introduced as a second-half substitute during a pre-season friendly meeting at the King Power stadium in September 2020.

Leshabela, who left South Africa for England at the age of two, has already represented his country of birth at age-group level.

The left-footed player was part of the South Africa squad at the 2019 Fifa Under-20 World Cup finals in Poland and had hoped to be included in Bafana Bafana's 23-man squad for the upcoming Olympics, only to be omitted by head coach David Notoane.

Tony Mowbray is keen to bolster his midfield options with only five senior figures currently at his disposal which includes Bradley Johnson, Lewis Travis, Joe Rothwell, John Buckley and Jacob Davenport.

With the Rovers manager expected to retain his three-man midfield for the new season, recruitment intend to identify one, if not two potential recruits to supplement that department.

Mowbray has previously reiterated his preference to arrange permanent deals than navigate the loan market but given resources are finite, Rovers can utilise their glowing track record with developing young players to their advantage when attempting to improve their squad.

As things stand, many Premier League outfits are wanting to assess their squads in pre-season before making a decision on whether to authorise any loan departures and that is likely to be the case for Leshebela.

And a waiting game is seemingly in order for Liverpool's Leighton Clarkson, another midfield option that Rovers are fond of.

Its great that clubs are taking an interest in him with a view to loaning him. I've watched him as long as I have Knight and beyond.

There seems to be ripples within the club with regards to the development and academy players including incoming signings and release of players.

My only beef is that if we have a player we beleive in talent wise then we should be getting them loaned out to a club as early as possible whether they are 17/18/19 or 20 and get them blooded. I beleive we've made an error in not doing this in the past and hopefully that will change with the new academy facilities and influx in youth talent and how we manage this.

If Leshabela can get a loan move to the Championship then there'll be a queue for Tavares if we manage to get him to re-sign for us.

I think the point closer to the truth is that if he doesn't get a loan this year, then I'm not sure he can have a future with us. Club and player working on it.

Would Tavares accept championship football? Sometimes I wonder with his ego etc whether he's going to make the wrong choices such as this and start to attain a bad reputation.

I thought he looked better than Tavares in his cameo in the first team and from what I’ve seen if  the odd under 23’s game . I know there  Is an age difference between them and they are not the same type of player . Just my opinion.

I agree.  Hope the loan to Luton comes off.  It could be exactly the next step he needs, and we can hope he makes the same sort of impact, and progress, that KDH experienced.

I haven't watched a lot of them so I might be wrong, but don't Luton play a style similar to ours? Makes complete sense to loan players to Luton in that case.

Saw someone claim on Twitter that this is just a trial, with a view to a loan if it goes well.

They also claim Nige came in for him but he turned it down as they couldn’t guarantee minutes.

No idea how legit this account is

Simpson would know who’s good in 23s from playing with them last season before going Bristol. Maybe he recommended him?

im not sure we had any of our decent youth available at the time he was bought in. Nige will know Beaglehole well, (whether thats a good thing or not I dont know) im sure if there were players around that level he would be aware of them.

Realistically only Tavares, the thai lad, Leshabela and maybe shane flynn are going to be close to championship level.

. .it would be good to see how Leshebela progress on loan!!!

Good player, looks like he can fit in the middle of the park quite well. This move has come a bit late but he has a chance now to find out his level and his ability to rise above it.

KDH was dynamic in his loan spell and I hope he can bring that level of self believe into the squad, to push for game time.
