Christ. Never seen wildfires like that before in the UK. Hope it causes a few of the "pfftt, it won't be that hot, it was hotter in 1976, bunch of snowflakes" types to actually sit up and take notice. Sadly forests and grasslands blazing out of control in the heat is going to become a regular occurrence.

I’m not built for this, I’m moving to Lapland.

And looking forward to a more comfortable night sleep if those are the temps...

But over on the BBC......

Don’t think it’s going to happen. Hope I’m wrong but a front is passing over now and there’s nothing from it. I think it’s so hot that the rains not making it to ground level.

Our local Asda store has cleared all its fresh salad, soft fruit, chilled cabinets and freezers of EVERTYHING. There's a notice saying something along the lines of 'due to the current high temperatures and to avoid food waste, our fridges and freezers have been temporarily closed'. WTF?

Rain on the way :

Via the BBC.

Rain begins heading in from the west

After the blistering heat, we're starting to see a notable drop off in temperatures for some, following a cold front sweeping in from the west.

Tonight, a band of heavy, showery rain will progress eastwards across Britain, falling as thundery showers in places.

It's still set to be a tropical night in some places, but will feel slightly fresher than last night for many.

There’s rain in the air, it’s just not reaching the ground. We’ve had showers and a front move over and we’ve not had a single drop. Really hoping for a substantial storm over the next few hours.

How hot has it been in the rest of the shire today?

Walked into my garden with my meat thermometer and it was going north of 40c.

Went to the co op and my car thermometer said it was 41.5c

My car hit 40c. 43c sat in the sun but once we’d been driving a few miles dropped and stuck at 40c.

Replaced the toilet pan connector, was that hot and sweating that much that when I stood up the sweat was running down my leg, thought I was pisssing myself for a second lol Then leant back on the towel rail and it was warm, had to go and check the heating wasn’t on. :o

We've got a temporary pool in our garden, 75 cm deep.  Water in it earlier this evening was warmer than any pool I've been in in Spain,  Greece wherever. Did feel a bit mad.

I can see no downside to the hot weather apart from a lot of things being on fire, surely a small price to pay for it feeling like a holiday you went on that was actually slightly spoiled by it being too hot

This is a joke I assume

I'm not sure it's in the bin but hopefully they have some backroom chilled/frozen storage

I put on a pair of clean undies this morning and they were warm out of the draw. Putting tomorrows change in the fridge tonight.

Guessing it's something to do with the machines perhaps malfunctioning due to the heat? As in their generators overheating?

I have no idea.

I just came in to say similar, it's rubbish for those directly affected obviously, but maybe this will be the wake up call that some people need.

I was about to say the same. I've added an end to the post.
