Farrington fox Posted 24 August 2021 Posted 24 August 2021 Over 90 minutes he doesn’t do enough. He’s a coaster with the odd flash of brilliance. 2

Get the money and run No. Rodgers is obsessed with it though and playing one up front. For me he shouldn't have broke the Iheanacho/Vardy partneship off, they were scoring us goals and Vardy didn't spend 90 mins running around on his own with no support. 2
AKCJ Posted 24 August 2021 Posted 24 August 2021 Last night was probably the worst game you could ever wish to assess a player like Maddison. Should have been hooked at half time for Soumare and we should have gone 4-3-2 with Barnes and Vardy up top.
An Sionnach Posted 24 August 2021 Posted 24 August 2021 He is staying for sure, potential suitors will be reassessing him after performances like last night. At 6 million a year he needs to be used so what do we do. He is slow anyway so putting 20 lbs on is not going to alter that much. Tin-ribbed physiques are going out of fashion for footballers hopefully. If he can stand up and hold up the ball better he can use his excellent vision and football brain to far better effect. He should watch videos of Pirlo and Scholes to see how it can be done.

Yeah because the British transfer record hasn't just been smashed with someone with the EXACT same physique as Maddison Pretty much EVERY international attacking football is built the same that play in the '10' role. He plays in a completely different position to Pirlo and Scholes they played a lot deeper roles that Maddison so i am not sure how watching them will help. He was pretty poor last night but as good as anyone else in the front 4.

The difference is that Grealish has unbelievable power in his legs which allows him to carry the ball as well as shield it from the opposition. Maddison has matchstick legs.

But what i was trying to say is there is probably 3 or 4 players in the prem that are built like tanks that are all about power and that's it. 1

But to say that this slender physique that players have is going out of fashion is simply BS.

He could do with a few more pounds mind you. They are all creative midfielders so tying them down to specific pigeonholes like 10 or 8 suggests they are not versatile. Maddison and Tielemans should be interchangeable in my opinion.
sdb Posted 24 August 2021 Posted 24 August 2021 He's a passenger when the going gets tough. I'd say his value is dropping by the week and will likely continue to do so over the course of the season. I think we'd have entertained selling him if there was genuine interest.

Grealish has beefed up and looks solid, as for the Pirlo and Scholes comparison, Maddison considers himself to be a #8 and it being his proper position.

They're just different. Grealish might be the better athlete but Maddison has a significantly higher footballing intelligence. In fact, having listened to both of them be interviewed I'm pretty confident Maddison's got a lot more intelligence full stop. Maddison reads the game better, gets his head up, plays for his team mates, picks a fantastic through ball. I'd have him in our side over Grealish to be quite honest. What the fvck would we do with 295328538 set pieces a game? We still wouldn't score from any of them. 3

I would say they can play both roles but not as good as each other in their normal positions. Youri has no real pace but can unlock a defence with a pass, Madders is a bit more agile but half a yard short of real class in terms of pace. Madders at #8 tends to want to get the ball off the back line and constantly drops too deep to be effective.

Totally agree with this, Maddison stats on creativity speak for themselves, I like Grealish but he plays for free kicks, more than half of them are soft but that’s his USP for 75% of his fans, most fouled player, Jesus wept. We’ve had a bad game played with ten men but this seemingly is evidence enough to backup the already predisposed opinions of Maddison. Granted he isn’t quite reaching his levels yet but we all know he’s been injured, it be right to expect him to get better (as long as he stays fit!) and that ‘gulf’ in class will evaporate. 1 1

An Sionnach Posted 24 August 2021 Posted 24 August 2021 You know if Grealish fetches 100 million how much would Gerrard have fetched these days. Jack's good but nowhere near that good. 1

Maddison not the greatest at deadball situations, I think he is quite poor, Bertrand turns up and looks a hundred times better.
Criggers Posted 24 August 2021 Posted 24 August 2021 Madders believed his own hype. The way I feel about him at the moment I’d swap him for Lingard. Big Jimmy Mad needs to up his game. He’s great when he gets time and space and the team is on song. When we’re short though, he’s hugely ineffective. 2
