He's a luxury we can afford to have because of the work rate and effort around him. If he's off it we usually have a number of players who can still create something and drag him through the game until he either gets that one chance or until he gets subbed. For me Maddison is the furthest thing to what Arsenal need right now and sums up exactly why they are in their current mess. Exactly this. Personally, I can't see the appeal for Madders to go to Arsenal at this current time; it's not as if they're completely rebuilding the squad and look to be going places. Also, I don't really understand why Arsenal would want him. He's potentially a very good player and, when he's on it, he's great. However, he's hardly a catalyst to improve the players around him which is surely what you'd think Arsenal would expect him to be.
Bablemikey Posted 16 August 2021 Posted 16 August 2021 Lots of talk about his hip injury here but I thought that Brendan told us that the injury was to his back? 1

Same could have been said about Fofana & Cags who were unproven at this level but when put in at this level we’re Amazing, KDH has shown his worth plenty of times when he came on v Man City he showed he is totally comfortable at this level his ball control movement & passing is real quality. Youri is an amazing player all throughout the midfield and his passing is sublime KDH could be a great partner for him and as for Maddison not getting injured his list over the last 3 years is quite worrying he has had a few injuries longest being out 72 days but it seems his hip seems to be the worrying factor but Brendan has come out said his hip is fine and was only replaced as for a blow to the back ? https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/james-maddison/verletzungen/spieler/294057 Edited 16 August 2021 by justfoxes 1

It's often what they'll be recommended to do as well as having custom made beds. I know but imagine telling Maddison he can’t drive that.

KDH and Youri together is exciting.. think Youri playing further forward would work really well. Cash in on Maddison before Arsenal change their minds!!
FoxFossil Posted 16 August 2021 Posted 16 August 2021 Wondering if the Rucksac is too heavy, full of his wages.

Don't know why you'd move Youri from his current position.

He has been tried in the Maddison role a number of times and it never works out. He is most effective when playing deeper. Selling Maddison and putting Tielmans in the number 10 role would simultaneously weaken us in two positions. 5

A part of me thinks we should keep him and sort out his attitude & make his cockiness work for him more time on the pitch the other thinks sell him on and invest in the team trouble is will this be one that bites us on the Arse if he goes now? Sorry but an hidden Cheap shot.... what attitude..!! & what cockiness..!! 3

gurru991 Posted 16 August 2021 Posted 16 August 2021 (edited) Like any pantomime, football seems to need heroes & villains and it seems that Maddison & Perez have become the villains. Madders is flamboyant & likes fancy back packs, Alice bands & doesn't fit the Leicester stereotype of draught beer & meat pies. He is an excellent player who when fit is a game changer. I know he would fit in nicely at Arsenal but I for one do not to see him leave. Edited 16 August 2021 by gurru991 Grammar 2

jerry Posted 16 August 2021 Posted 16 August 2021 Personally I regard Maddison as a bit of a Show Pony a luxury we maybe could manage without. Spurs yesterday showed that no one individual is bigger or more indispensable to the Team. With Tilemans as the focal point it also means that Maddison is used wide which doesn't suit his game. Remember the England Golden generation when Lampard and Gerrard played together and that never really gelled.

A strange obsession by our fan base when a player excels in a position to put him further forward. Ricardo, Tielemans and Barnes are good enough to be in a PL winning team but a lot on here would have them RW for Ricardo, No 10 for Tielemans and No 9 for Barnes. 11
Popular Post Bryn Posted 16 August 2021 Popular Post Posted 16 August 2021 Think the criticism Maddison getss on here is mad. As far as I can tell his only issue is that he's been unlucky with injuries. When he was fit last season he was in superb form. I've never seen a hint of an attitude problem. 39 4 1

To my eyes, he seems more like a youri type player than a Maddison. Is it just me? 6
