Some people have short memories are best every team included two free transfers, and a load of bargain bin players.

It not about how much you spend or how much they cost, its about find the right people.

We just don't do January windows anymore....

(Said in the M&S advert style)...

This isn't just a transfer window...

This is a Leicester City transfer window.

Easy to see it as a mistake but at the end of the day there's an allotted budget for the season. It's not necessarily a mistake to spend all of that in June and not leave anything in case you might need it in January.

Money we spend in January has to come from somewhere, it should be fairly obvious by now that we don't have the sort of owners that are going to senselessly plump millions of their own capital in repeatedly to buy players. Its just not us.

We would all love it if Top could and would take spending just up one more notch to be able to challenge the likes of West Ham to winter dips for a cheeky Raphinha bid or something. However, I'm sure we'd all choose future sustainability over that. None of us are looking across the league at the consequences of Everton's silly over spending and wishing that was us.

Watching Villa tee themselves up to go the same way and seeing us where we are, I'm happier in our position than that.

The problem is it’s not a level playing field. With the Saudi money Newcastle can quite simply buy they way out of their relegation position. Is that fair on the low income clubs ? It is time the Premier League like rugby union introduced a strict salary cap.

Yeah but kicking costs down the road and pretending debts don't have to be paid is how the whole planet almost bankrupted itself.

It's still not sensible really and it's still a gamble, we buy those players and still finish 5th and the foundations start crumbling on what you're trying to build.

It's frustrating but it's also sensible.

The club plan long term, they aren't good at short term on the fly decisions which I'm OK with. However, there's absolutely nothing stopping the long term decisions being taken in January. Vestergaard aside we are usually very thorough and aren't rushed in compiling who our long term targets are and I don't agree that none of them are obtainable on loan with an option/obligation to buy of a January.

We seem to lack imagination in the jan window these days. Huth and Tielemans were great examples of immeasurably improving the side without breaking the bank in jan. To sign no one would smack of arrogance to me given how light we are. Any of the names CBS  would improve our depth. Kouyate, Sarr, Jones....whoever. they don't even necessarily need to play, just offer competition.

Looks like we're getting nobody. Another season has gone by without really strengthening at the mid-season point. For all the talk about finances maybe if the board had gambled a little bit we'd have been playing Champions League football and be better off.

I know the owners/board are sacred around here but 3 seasons in a row with no real strengthening at the mid-season point reeks of no ambition. With the injury problems we have and the season in dire need of saving its almost negligible that funds haven't been made available.

Other clubs have managed it with similar incomes and revenue/expenditure to us.

...how many  of these clubs are investing in infrastructure at this moment!!!

True but as its been mentioned several times in this thread the club cannot get bogged down in long term strategy when there's short term needs that need addressing too.

Ndidi was also signed in the January window.  I'm not so bothered about this window this season, because the league season is gone, but we made a big mistake not strengthening in the previous two January windows, when we had a good chance of top 4. Arguably not strengthening cost the club champions league status and money. An expensive mistake.

Our biggest problem is that we got the signings of Vestergaard and Bertrand wrong. Now we want better but are stuck with them on decent wages. Hindsight I know, but it makes it difficult for us to then go out and sign again.

I keep seeing people saying we're cash strapped. Why are we?

.. self sustainability!!!

We have a small amount of money available to buy in the summer window and with the sale of one of our better players, it boost the pot.

If we do not go down the like for like replacement route, we will have to "money ball" our acquisitions.

King Power are not going to put money in, we are at present looking to expand the capacity, that in the long term helps to finance the club, it

has to be done, better do it now while the borrowing is low, than look to cripple ourselves in the future.

Personally I thought it was pretty obvious those two would fail.. I am no expert but half of a defence that conceded 9 goals twice in a game doesn't give you much confidence in them lol

Yep. I got the logic with Bertrand, an experience head around the place, may not play much but help Thomas develop a bit. But the Vestergaard money could have been spent elsewhere or even saved as he has added nothing and as been worse than anyone ever feared (not sure he has been helped by our set up though in fairness, exposed every weakness he has lol )

Makes sense.

This season feels like a write off anyway so I'm not particularly bothered about us not making any deals today. I'm not sure I trust the set up we have to identify the right kind of targets either.

My thoughts are we have just written this season off due to the catastrophic injuries that have blighted it. We won't go down but we won't make top 6 either, it's somewhere mid table we will sit.

Money is tight due to the global pandemic and economical situation and King Power have suffered immeasurably due to travel restrictions which has had a domino effect where £ is concerned.

I imagine they are just going to see the season out with the players we have and to come back, then make the best effort they can to finish as high as we can, then take a look at where things stand in the summer when the world in general and in football will probably be in a much more stable position.

No point forking out millions yet to save a season that doesn't need saving.

Having said that, this Kouyate bloke I'd say would be something too good to turn down if any of it is true. Grab him before anyone else gets him.

Pretty disappointed to be honest, I know money is tight but I'd have thought we would at the very least be able to sort out a CB loan in 4 weeks. I guess we really are suffering from Ryan Bennett PTSD

Must be nice for Rudkin to have an annual winter break

Think we are just seeing the big clubs locking their assets down, making them unavailable to ‘lesser’ clubs to entrench their positions. A predictable response to risk to clubs like Arsenal, Tottenham, Man Utd, etc.

If we weren't going to sign someone two season running to help us over the line for CL football,

I'm not sure were ever going to consider doing it to secure 8th

Is this the first transfer window without a single thread going hot?!?

To be fair, we could have prob gotten away with not opening the 'Transfer talk' section at all.
