It was the persistent niggling injuries before that I was referring to.

Pretty sure it was just the plantar fascia in his foot - that could be career ending in itself but he had got over the issue in the autumn. it is likely to return though.

After a few injury set backs of course he'd want to go for a longer deal.... What do you expect him to do run down his contract? And then if he picks up another serious injury as his contract expires, he's without a club.

This is an example of what I'm talking about.

I'm disagreeing with people who think Ricardo signed a 4 year deal because he loves it here and wants to repay us for nursing him through a terrible injury.

It could be that, maybe he respects that after everything we've been willing to put 4 years on the table.

Thought he was brilliant today despite the result For all the people labelling him the next matty james, i think even after his injuries he should be playing for the clubs at the levels above us.

Hopefully he can stay injury free and continue building up his fitness. I feel he's lost a couple of meters in his acceleration and not sure he will regain that. But his runs and technique really are elite level.

The Matty James comparison isn't entirely wrong however.

We haven't had Ricardo at full tilt since March 2020 and given our miserable run with injuries of late it wouldn't be a shock if he was ruled out again soon. Liverpool had a right go at him in the league Cup.

What a performance yesterday though. As good as I can remember from him. Would excel at Champions League level even now.

Those saying he is injury prone should remember that he was the victim of a disgraceful challenge resulting in a fracture, from which he actually recovered quickly as there was no associated ligament damage unlike fofanas leg break.

admittedly, he had a few issues when returning from his acl but as we have

seen with JJ and others, hamstring strains are not uncommon in athletes returning from long lay-offs.

lets hope it is all behind him now and we see the old Ricky back to his best.

Well done Riccy, great to see him back in the first team and excellent that he's signed a new contract.

Please can we go back to the basics, 4 atb  2 attacking fb's and 2 no nonsence cb's, with wilf screening to allow the fb's to go on their jollys!!!!!

With Ricardo and Justin back to their best we will be unreal again.  Where are all the people on here that were against signing Tarkowski? FFS, we'd be looking pretty good right now with him in the team.

I agree with this. All top clubs splurge some cash if they have a real need for a particular position. With Soyuncu's poor form we need a solid leader in defence now that Evans is out so much. Add to this Ricardo and Fofana needing some protection it points to a big purchase.
