Yes, he did take some brilliant free kicks but also a lot of poor one's and absolutely shite corners 🤣. Unequivocally lacks the consistency of a top player. How are you measuring that then? All comps: 55 goals, including 21 outside the box and 10 direct freekicks. In what way is he not one of our best ever PL players? 12

Gerard Posted 28 June 2023 Posted 28 June 2023 I'm just glad this has been sorted out quickly and amicably by both clubs. Tottenham have respected the fact that they wanted Maddison to be there at the start of pre season and they also wanted it done quickly as a drawn out affair may have seen a last minute bidder gazump them when situations change with other clubs getting a key player injured or not getting their top target. We have accepted that we sold him cheaper than what his worth is under other circumstances but we also wanted to draw a line under it ASAP so we can move on to other business and respect the fact that our hand is weak in the negotiation and a drawn out affair with the risk of the sale not happening or a Maddison mid to long term injury between now and then scuttles our sale. Both clubs have done well out of this and acted in their own interests rather than taking it down to the wire in the hope of a better deal.
Stuntman_Mike Posted 28 June 2023 Posted 28 June 2023 Maddison could find himself having another season in the bottom half if Kane goes Bayern. I don't think it's a particularly exciting move for him if you take away the NFL stadium. Newcastle made more sense to me, if there was interest from them. 4
Wasyls Pec Deck Posted 28 June 2023 Posted 28 June 2023 I don’t think the fee especially with add ons is bad at all. He’s only got a year left, we have very little bargaining power.

Schmeichel, Ricardo, Kante, Maddison, Mahrez and Vardy would be all certainties. The other five are up for debate but honourable mentions to Izzet, Lennon, Heskey, Lineker, Draper and Barnes. ...the immortals you would think takes up the top spots, hard to see further than that!!!

I think there genuinely was, but it soon became apparent to them that Maddison and his representatives only had eyes for Spurs so they slowly lost interest and moved on. And that's why Spurs had a free run and could low-ball us.

Well Ricardo goes ahead of Simpson if I'm picking a legend team as my criteria is ability and performances over the fact that you just happened to be in the side when we won the title. Not taking away anything from Simpson whatsoever who done his job perfectly in out title win but if you ask me to pick a player out of the two then no contest. 3
RowlattsFox Posted 28 June 2023 Posted 28 June 2023 Best thing about this is at least its ****ed off the Newcastle fans who were so convinced he was going there. Maddison is naturally a Spurs type player. 1
Woody1962 Posted 28 June 2023 Posted 28 June 2023 Regardless of Maddison's choices, I would love to know his reasoning of choosing Spuds of Newcastle, what with next seasons European Football & all that?
bovril Posted 28 June 2023 Posted 28 June 2023 (edited) Perhaps this is harsh but he wouldn't be anywhere near my list of great Leicester players. Potentially one of our most talented for sure, but he certainly contributed to our relegation and leaves without any iconic moments (apart from maybe PSV?). Played very little part in our second greatest trophy win. Edited 28 June 2023 by bovril 2

Generally, Mahrez stepped up (some penalties aside) at crucial moments. Madders tended to go missing at crucial moments. 3

If Kane departs it's going to be a shock to the system and I don't think Spurs have the plan or mental strength to cover this kind of loss. If Son leaves also they'll be favourites to go down after Luton. 1
Bert Posted 28 June 2023 Posted 28 June 2023 1 hour ago, Gerard said: That's obvious fuelled by likeability, longevity and the fact he was around in L1 and the title. If you're comparing ability then they're a light year apart. Which all contributes to being an all time great. As already mentioned, if we are talking simply technical footballing ability, Maddison makes the top 5 probably second behind Mahrez.
Guest Dirkster the Fox Posted 28 June 2023 Posted 28 June 2023 I would expect Leicester have negotiated a decent add-ons to this deal. We'll need financial protection, assuming we don't get promoted to back this season coming, to fill the reduction in parachute payments, year on year. While £40m up front is decent enough, it may well be just as important any future add-on payments we'll get as part of this deal. Also, don't forget the higher the initial fee the greater amount of money we have to pay Norwich as part of the sell on % we agreed signing him. I might suit us a lower initial fee, but better add-ons. Just a hunch.

It's not his fault half of his tenure here coincided with Rodgers tanking the club and the Board inexplicably letting us get relegated. He was still part of a team that won the FA cup, and got 2 top 6 finishes and european campaigns. Scored lots of briliant goals and freekicks for us 1 hour ago, volpeazzurro said: He was a very good player for us but not one of the best ever by a long way imo. I simply said 'Maddison is one of our best ever PL players' and then @volpeazzurro said he wasn't. The stats don't lie. He's up there. Where he lies on the all-time PL LCFC list is up to each person's subjective opinion, but he's de facto part of the conversation

GingerrrFox Posted 28 June 2023 Posted 28 June 2023 I’ve heard it’s £40 million guaranteed and it could reach £55 million if they hit certain agreed triggers such as qualifying for the Champions League and appearances. 1

Perhaps it is good to come out of the shadows, where the clubs' legend is not breathing over the back of your neck. Postecoglou will have them play with purpose and invigorate them.

Southampton want a deal closer to £50m for Tino Livramento, according to The Athletic. Newcastle have reportedly bid £15m for the full-back. That’s not even a close difference. I can’t see Newcastle going above about £20mill, £25mill at an absolute push. It’s a valuation to put off buyers completely rather than any expectation they would get that. His contract ends in 2026 from what I can see so Southampton hold the cards really. We didn’t have they luxury with Maddison. That’s what I was saying, we have got in a position with him where he and the buying club have the power.
