I know he wanted more game time, but I can't see us selling Mendy next season, if he continues playing like this! Can't we take the DNA of Ndidi & Mendy and create Mendidi, what a player that would be.

.

Gallagher is a great player, he'd be very welcome here.

 

But this game has all been about one player. Not just his goal, not just his assist. He is pressing the absolute life out of about 4 Crystal Palace players at any given time. The level he's played at today Guardiola and Klopp will be paying massive attention too. Hopefully Gareth Southgate is too, because this guy would be fantastic for England too.

That was the most enjoyable 45 minutes of the season.

 

The pressing is so amazing. We're forcing them into panicked passes and picking up the dregs in the midfield. Mendy is giving us a critical passing lane through the middle; they're standing off him, and it was great to see Papy surge forward with the ball.

 

Backline, especially Cags and Justin, very good. Great distribution from Kasper. Youri started poorly but grew into the half. Madders deadball delivery is something special. Daka also looks dangerous too - getting first to a lot of scrappy balls, putting pressure and just generally stretching the play. Ade is a menace and took his goal really well.

 

As for KDH? I've run out of superlatives. He's an energizer bunny. A true box to box midfielder. I think the comments about his lack of end product was fair, but considering the lad's workrate I was confident eventually we'd see him execute in the final third. I am so pleased for him. Set up one goal and scored the next. What a gem. I'm so proud of our academy.

 

Only caveats - Luke Thomas looks terrible. I was almost going to advocate for him to be dragged off, but at 2-0, I think we can take the small risk of him making a mistake that could lead to goal and hope he plays his way into form. He looks awfully rusty.

 

That was so much fun. Let's finish them off now, lads.

Little shout out for Daka, would have been easy to try and drill the ball across the area, but he paused and selected the man in space, KDH  :appl:

I think the ref's been decent.  He made it clear he ain't having it when Palace players were doing multiple rolls and screaming.

 

He also pulled Like up for a foul throw, which ref's should do more.

Thing is, a pressing game only really works well if you are confident in the defence.  When we had large spells without Fofana, Evans, Ricky P, Justin etc, it's difficult to play that way and be successful.

Our midfield is SO much more dynamic with Mendy in it ahead of Ndidi. I prefer this midfield.  Which is mad as I love wilf as a player.  But our CDM today has been winning the ball then carrying it past players.... It creates confusion and panic in the opposition and pulls players out of position. 

 

Wrap mendy in cotton wool please.

I think he's been better than ndidi when he's played

Running out of superlatives to describe Dewsbury-Hall's contributions since he established himself in our first team. A quality assist and superb finish today along with his incredible work underline his value to the team. If we were trying to buy him he'd cost north of 50 million. He is a man of the match contender every game. Undroppable! And, he's one of our own! So proud of this lad. Youri who?

I love Wilf as a player and he seems a great person and I hope he stays with us for years but I do remember finding it funny over the last couple of years that people were debating who was better out of him and Kante. For me it’s never even been close. Ndidi is a fabulous footballer and would grace most top half teams but Kante is simply the greatest player in his position of his generation. As I said, I love Wilf but Kante is another level. X

Sexy football.

 

Attack/defending from the front is our best asset, especially with the likes of Soyuncu playing, so it's a treat to see us utilise it.
