Pure football manager this but what the hell !

Out:

Ward, Jakupovic, Castagne, Bertrand, Soyuncu, Amartey, Mendy, Choudhury, Praet, Tielemans, Perez, Iheanacho…..we can get £80-£90 mill for that rabble !

In: Colwill, Tarkowski, Maehle, Sangare, Madueke, De Ketelaere, Lookman

starting 11 for our inevitable first game of the season, home vs Wolves:

                          Schmeichel

              Fofana      Evans    Colwill

Justin          Ndidi       Sangare        Maehle

       Madueke   De Ketelaere  Maddison

...no way!!!

We are not going to start  a new season with square pegs in round holes!!!

Let us get Maddison where he should be, move JJ to the left hand side.

If we brought in Piroe he could play as an inverted #10 alongside Maddison and CDK as the CF in a 3-4-2-1.

Or better still:-

            Kasper

Ricardo Fofana Evans JJ

         Wilf  KDH

Tete  Maddison     Barnes

             CDK

Not really bothered about anyone else, Maddison seems to think the team did all they could Vs Roma, so clearly there’s some deep lying issue with regards to the player’s understanding what is expected of them.

We don’t need any more weak pansy players, we need our current players to become more street smart and show physicality, some strength. Whoever we bring in needs to fit this bill too. We’re currently spineless, toothless and leaderless to boot.

Next season I want Rodgers gone. I want us back to basics and in a good old 4-4-2. I want to see us pressing well and playing with an ultra high tempo, an unmatched work rate. Direct football, less of this backwards sideways puelball.

Yeah sorry I suppose the above was more of a 3-4-2-1 with the wide forwards inside, as the wingbacks provide the width.

I just think the number 10 position is a bit of a luxury these days, not many play it. The likes of Foden, Mount, Grealish, Sterling, I’m sure would love to play ‘10’ but invariably play off the left, right or false 9, to give balance to the team. I just think us rocking up away from home especially in a 4-2-3-1, with a luxury 10, 2 attacking wide players and advanced fullbacks, we would just get picked off

Rodgers is on record as saying he wants 5-6 and we know three of those are going to be major - box-to-box CM, a CB and a right winger. I'd expect Lookman to sign too.

I'd be surprised if we're not looking at something close to:

Schmeichel / Ward / Jakupovic

Ricardo / Justin

Fofana / Evans

CB / Amartey or Vestergaard

Castagne / Thomas / Bertrand

Ndidi / DM

Dewsbury-Hall / CM to challenge / Soumaré

RW / Albrighton

Maddison / no.10

Barnes / Lookman

Vardy / Iheanacho / Daka

I think with the right signings that would be perfectly fine - it's less a 'rebuild' and more a 'refresh' with an injection of something new. The CM alongside Ndidi is always going to dictate the way we play, so that will make a huge difference to the style just as Tielemans did when he first arrived.

That's a squad of 26 which would be fine given Thomas is U21 for the upcoming season still. Only question mark would be Iheanacho, for me - if they get de Ketelaere or similar as the competition in the no.10 position, they might let Iheanacho go and retain somebody elsewhere (Perez/Praet/Mendy would be my thoughts). Rodgers was quite content with Vardy/Iheanacho/Perez as his front options for his first 2 years in the job.

Amartey is not good enough to be 4th choice. His lack of aggression is one of the main reasons for that embarrasing corner stat- then also he is prone to other mistakes such as Forest away. If we go into the season with an aging Evans and an inadequate 4th choice, I fear another mid table finish.

The first thing I want to happen is for Rodgers (let's face it, we won't sack him) to sit down and figure out what systems and styles he wants us to play and what players he needs to make that system work. As it stands, we have a whole bunch of players who can't play the way they are being asked to, or at the very least, aren't being given the opportunity to play to their strengths.

Wether it be a 433 with Nacho as a loan striker and Maddison out right, a 4231 with Daka as a loan striker and Ndidi in a CM 2 or 3 at the back with Cags as a LCB and Thomas as a wingback... It seems no matter what he goes with, he isn't getting the best out of some players because they are being asked to play a position that doesn't benefit them.

So regardless of who goes and who comes in, by the time next season kicks off, I just want him to have a clear plan A,B,C and a group of players who fit those systems and understand how to play them.

There is a lot of truth in this. If you step back and look at the difference between ourselves and the top sides the main difference is desire, industry and work rate.  Peak Vardy was the epitome of this behaviour but our stock of playable honest pros with the winning attitude like him Evans and Albrighton is dwindling like the southern white rhino.  The ability is there it’s just that we are too inconsistent in producing this desire for a full 90 minutes in every game.  We demonstrated in the last two seasons that the nucleus of this team is largely capable of this. Yes the waters have been muddied by the bad injury experience but this issue has to be sorted. Not being in Europe will mask some of the deficiency in the squad quality and depth but the starting eleven also needs improvement in known areas. Those inside the club know the extent of whether this needs minor or major surgery.  Clearly though, playing  anyone not demonstrating 100% commitment or belief just sets the wrong behaviours particularly to younger players.

I suspect there it is a case of just getting the behaviours, level of competition, confidence and spirit in the squad right with both replacing the want always and bringing  in a few with the right attitude in the areas we know we need to strengthen to lift the whole team.

The call for a new management team is also understandable but likewise we have shown that Brendan can deliver success. The setup does need a shakeup to address the obvious deficiencies in certain areas like set piece defending, medical and conditioning. I’d say a rethink on the mental/motivational staffing side could help too to assist whoever the manager is.

if we want to regain a top six position wholesale surgery is risky at this point. Patience is thin but the odds of getting this right are low compared to a more precise key hole surgery approach focussed on the right areas. Set out a clear delivery framework on these areas and monitor delivery whilst holding people to account. This has to be the responsibility of the board and has to be driven by them. Get it wrong and continue our current trajectory then we will be in a relegation battle next year.

You realise players are told what to say on social media by professional PR staff right?

I've heard a few dodgy takes the past few days, but Maddison making some inane social media post, which he was probably told to do, saying "we left it all out there" is worthy of him being sold has got to be right up there haha.

....with the highline we condense the game and press our opponents so we are not stretched!!!

Maddison is now excelling in the #10 role we just need a wide right attacker and a Forward like CDK who can hold the ball up and is good in the air, has a presence and tidy on the floor to compliment what we have.

What we have moved away from is the high tempo,  highline which we used to employ.

What ‘rebuild’?

Hasnt he been rebuilding since he’s been here?

And I thought we were skint anyway?

What does ‘rebuild’ actually mean anyway?

I agree with a lot of these lists of outgoings but it won’t be as easy as that, remember how long it took to shift Slimani, Silva, Diabate and Ghezzal. When James and King moved on we had a squad where everyone was making a contribution and at least competing for a place. A year on we have a few who don’t again but who in their right mind will offer Bertrand a deal on good money using this season as his current CV. The dog and duck reserves expect their full backs to chase back, even they wouldn’t be interested. Vestergaard? Maybe Hammer Horror need a “guy who answers the door at haunted house” stand in :dunno:. Perez is a problem in that clubs above us (I mean top 6) wouldn’t be interested, below us would struggle to match his wages. Part exchange to Leeds for Raphinha? Even if they stay up is he in their salary structure? Won’t be easy to shift him.

We need a new player to build our team around. I’ve felt that over the Rodgers era that Tielemans has been that player with Maddison at times also. This team needs a new talisman for a new era.

Perhaps that player is KDH but it’s a creative attacking player that we are crying out for. Charles De Ketelare if we are in for him is the type of player I’m thinking of.

Our current manager should not be let anywhere near the so called rebuild. He has managed to make a good group of players average bottlers.

If he can work with what he's got, same old problems going to happen with the signings in the summer.

He should focus on getting the best out of what he got.

They're a decent squad....great managers will find ways to bring the best out of them....play to their strengths, not positions or formations they're not used to.
