Who makes this stuff up? It's so unbelievable that it might be true. It's going to be a long time until Leicester pay 50m for a player.

it wasn’t that long ago that I started a thread wondering who our first £20m player was going to be…

It’s hard to know how seriously to take any of these (beyond the fact that there’s zero chance the quoted figure is accurate), but if the club is genuinely interested in modern keepers who dominate the box and excel at distribution that represents a major philosophical shift.  One issue is that if that’s what they want, neither Iverson or Ward seem to represent that sort of player.  Marginally better than Kasper maybe, but cut roughly from the same mold.

We’re in the shit when it comes to recruitment.

Rodgers ain’t got a clue and he looks like he is in charge.

Countless goalkeepers across better than Sanchez that would cost less than half that.

I would be looking at the 3 teams at risk of relegation, with one going down it’s highly likely that a very good goalkeeper is going to be available at an attainable price, I would be happy with any from Pope, Pickford and Meislier.  Might even be a relegation clause in their contracts that mean they could be a bargain

Meslier probably has RSI from picking the ball out of the back of the net

£50m… maybe for half of that. He is quality, but my lord that’s a lot of money. No chance we spend that on a keeper. Pope will likely be available, Lunin from Madrid, both should be cheaper than that by far.

There is absolutely zero value in buying players from other Prem teams and the sooner David Brent learns this the better. His Prem recruitment record of Perez, Vestegaard, Bertrand (70k wages) says it all. Players of atleast the same quality can be brought on the continent for a fraction of the price and with mucher lower wages.

No idea why we would look at bringing a goalkeeper in when we have Daniel Iversen on our books.

For what it’s worth, I still think Kasper will be number 1 next season

So we have probably more keepers on our books than 99% of football clubs, but none are good enough to remain or become our no.1?

That would be our transfer budget gone on a player we don’t desperately need, we have Iverson to come back, means that Kasper, Ward & Jakupovic are on their way out, would prefer Pope if we are going to spend money and half the price as well…

1. Sanchez is a good Premier League goalkeeper already and, for context, is about 5 months younger than Iversen.

2. £50m is a huge amount to pay but if Brighton have a replacement lined up and Sanchez agitates for a move, I think he could go for less.

3. Finances may be restricted but we don't know what sales may alresdy be lined up. There could already be deals more or less done for Tielemans, Soyuncu and Kasper. Plus there could be other deals in the pipeline (e.g. stadium naming rights, training ground naming rights, more 'official partners').

Having said all that, signing an established Premier League goalkeeper from an upwardly mobile rival does seem unlikely at present.

If indeed the plan is to replace Kasper, the funds for an expensive transfer aren’t going to come from selling him.  He’ll be 36, he’s a relic from another era, and we’re likely limited to leagues at the level of Denmark, Belgium, and Austria, because those are the only places were possible CL sides would view him as a potential #1. I think you’d be looking at 8-10 million tops.

People are still doing stretches and limbering up for transfer season it seems lol

No chance this is anything more than an enquiry or a misdirection

Really wish we would just promote Iversen!!

I don’t think he’s ever played in a possession based team like ours, so it’s still unclear how he would adapt.

Even if he isn’t the best on the ball, he’s still young enough to improve. He’s also a big lad who can come for crosses and relieve the pressure on our defence.

Would be really disappointed if we signed a keeper instead of promoting Iversen! He is one of our best talents.

I have no idea, but is he? I know fans love a player who isn`t playing, doubly so if they are tearing it up elsewhere, but is he really that good? I genuinely have zero clue.

I mean, we spent £12m on a backup keeper who was Liverpool’s third choice keeper a few years back, so it’s possible. Pope for me please.

Tap him up now, keep an eye on him, dissuade him from extending his contract there, extend Kasper for another year and then sign Sanchez for cheaper down the line.

Sanchez is class and exactly what we need but not a chance are we using most of our budget on a keeper. £50m is probably what Brighton would want though to be fair and he isn't likely to kick up a fuss and ask to leave to join us
