Bert Posted 27 June 2022 Posted 27 June 2022 Didn’t someone say FFP is preventing us from signing until July?

Leaks never come from our end.

Les-TA-Jon Posted 27 June 2022 Posted 27 June 2022 The window is open for another 9 weeks. The non-international players have only just got back from their holidays. Last summer we made our signings on these dates: Daka 30th June Soumare 2nd July Bertrand 15th July Vestergaard 13th August Lookman 31st August No need to panic at this stage 1 2
The People's Hero Posted 27 June 2022 Posted 27 June 2022 Not sure how you guys expect us to complete transfers. All efforts are currently being focussed on swapping the family stand and the Kop. They've bizarrely decided to do this by actually physically moving the seats, one by one. Its absolute madness. I'm not sure who's running that project but its bonkers. This has got an uninspiring late August loan signing of an injured Danny Welbeck, all over it. Or George Hirst's return from loan being elevated to 'like a brand new signing'; no doubt with some bizarre video like him turning up on his bike in a black and white video parody of that Hovis advert. 1

foxinsocks Posted 28 June 2022 Posted 28 June 2022 If we start next season like we finished the last then rodgers is doomed. He will never get another top job (... all that spinning to mo avail). Yet his own judgement of players is flawed... something he is blind to a...and so my prediction is that he will panic and bring in dross thereby seeking his fate. 1

I don’t think we need 6 for sure. Maybe 2 that do actually strengthen the squad. We’ve already seen other teams find quality at a reasonable price.

We are massively unlikely to get top 4, the other teams just have too much cash that they can lay out consistently for that happened. So if we are realistically talking 5th - 7th, yeah I think a fit squad as it stands now (I'm including Lookman in that) is good enough to actually achieve that. There are obviously other considerations in terms of players contracts running down. So realistically, it would make sound financial sense to trade out Tielemans and Soyuncu for a replacement. But I'm not necessarily sure getting someone new instead of them means we're going to improve on those two.

I assume you/we should now be content with slugging it out for Europa and conference? I think we have missed several boats to anchor ourselves in the mix for top 4/5. It is what it is and I agree that we don’t really need more players if our ambitions are set where they seem. 1
adejo92 Posted 28 June 2022 Posted 28 June 2022 I think we have largely been brain washed into thinking we will be getting, or even need, an overhaul. It's been used time after time as an excuse for Rodgers Inept managerial decisions and the clear lack of any set piece training. We have a good squad of players and for every worry that we haven't signed someone, there's the positive that at the minute, we haven't lost anyone either. Madders, Fofana, Barnes, Tielemans etc etc are still all Leicester players. Whilst a couple of additions would be nice, I'm confident that if we were managed correctly, we'd have a good enough squad to compete. 2

Rodgers will look at it from numerous angles, with far greater information than us fans have. You have to think about keeping the squad fresh, players who might not sign contracts, players fed up of being fringe players etc. Content with slugging it out for Europe? It’s what a club our size dreams of. We simply do not have the finances to compete regularly, we had no chance to anchor ourselves there. Look at what the others can spend even without champs league. We are totally reliant on other teams being a disaster to stand a chance. We can’t even outspend Everton and West Ham.

Top 6? maybe if injury free. Top 8? Sure People overrate our squad in my opinion, as much as I love these guys, they are not as good or consistent as people think. You can call me a Rodgers lover if you wish, but I firmly believe I am being realistic.. 2

Certainly not top 4, but I don't see how, on paper, we'll ever compete for that with the business the top 4 are actually doing. I think we can compete for Europa league, for sure. 2
Grebfromgrebland Posted 28 June 2022 Posted 28 June 2022 An overhaul or freshen up is clearly needed. We've got tielemans running down his contract will probably be sold. Soyunchu not signed another deal and out of favour. Amartey out of contact soon and not that good. Mendy likely to leave. Choudhury likely to leave. Praet likely to leave. Lookman not our player. Soumare out of favour possibly up for sale. Perez out of favour possibly up for sale. Vestergaard out of favour possibly up for sale. Bertrand is shite now. That's 11 players that need something to happen. 1

If we are never going to compete with the top 4, why bother signing anyone, why bother turning up, why bother even giving a shite about football? Isn't the aim to win things and become the best, like in all sports? We have some of the richest football owners on Earth. If they want to win stuff, they really are going to have to put their hands in their pockets and break this frugal break-even 'sustainable' plan they have year on year - its only sustainable if you are not arsed about competing for trophies and titles fairly consistently. Pretty sure every owner, player and fan should be aiming to become the best.
