Reasons to be Positive / Optimistic

So all my friends will tell you I’m usually very negative / pessimistic when it comes to LCFC and whilst I understand everyone’s frustration with our lack of business so far, I still think we have lots of reasons to be positive / optimistic this season and I actually think we go into this season stronger than we went into the start of last season. 
 

Injured Players Returning - going into last season we had lost Fofana long term, Evans injury had no time scale on the return, Justin was still recovering from his ACL injury and Castagne had a broken cheek bone resulting in him due to play in a mask - without putting a curse on anything, fingers crossed all these players will be fit for the start of this season! 

 

No European Football - Playing and focusing on only 1 game a week will allow us the maximum recovery and preparation time to work on things Rodgers said we didn’t have the time to do last season. 
 

New contracts - we’ve managed to tie Fofana, Justin & Ricardo down to long term contracts.  
 

Players having an additional years experience - KDH, Thomas, Daka etc all have an additional years premier league experience behind them now. Justin will hopefully come into this season flying too off the back of his England experience. 

 

New Club Doctor / Medical Staff / Head of Recruitment - time will tell if these appointments turn out to be successful but it appears the club have highlighted the areas which have been our downfall in the last few seasons and are taking back control / clearing out of the dead wood we had in the backroom team.

 

Strong first XI - At full strength and I use that term loosely because I don’t think we’ve ever been able to field everyone on the pitch together but we have an incredibly strong starting XI with plenty of international players who will only make the bench. 
 

Exciting youngsters - With a years first team training under their belt and being included in the pre season trips / fixtures players like Alves, Braybrooke, Nelson etc will only improve and will hopefully only get closer to breaking through into the reckoning. 
 

This side have always been capable of scoring goals, if we can cut out the stupid amount of set piece and late goals I’m hopeful we can have an unexpectedly good season like a couple of years back where we sold Chillwell and didn’t do the Fofana, Castagne, Under business until late.

I agree in general that my meltdowns recently have generally been an exaggeration compared to what we can achieve next season, my worries are generally further in advance I think.

 

I also think this optimism could change should we not sign a first team player and we lose Tielemans because in reality we are weaker at the minute due to Lookman not being around. 
 

The other huge if on the above is injuries, and with our record over the past 2 seasons it could easily mean we are much weaker.

 

Brendan hasn’t helped in the slightest with his ridiculous comments though, the latest one about the rebuild being a mental thing is honestly embarrassing on his part.

I still believe if we can get a team of Kasper, Ricardo, Evans, Fofana, Castagne/Justin, Ndidi, KDH, Madders, Barnes, Vardy (plus a new right winger) and assuming Youri leaves - that starting XI will give anyone in the league a good game.

I am hopeful players like Daka will be more involved this year and we will begin to see the best of him.

We know Brendan always takes the cups seriously and we’ve had a semi final at least every season since he arrived. funnily enough, I’d love a league cup win this season, win the full set within 10 years would be amazing.

We’ve got some outstanding youth potential, who will hopefully get some minutes this season.

We are going into the season (at this stage) with no major injuries to key players for the first time in a long time.

this staring 11 based on Tilemans staying and long term injurys gaining full fitness and form is absolutely sublime. One of the best we've ever had.

I think some of us have forgotten how genuinely brilliant some of our squad are. 

 

I know this is hypothetical and we may easily lose Tilemans but who knows what the rest of pre season Will ring in terms of outgoings and incomings. But the fact of the matter is that's a shit hot 11 on paper.

We had too many injuries and too many games for the non injured... causing injuries... last season

I also think that the mentality was not right at times.

 

Less injuries and some of them lads get their heads down and we could we could be on a roll.

 

Dont need a massive squad, just need squad players rotating in and out of a settled team

I still think on paper it's a better side than anyone else outside the top 6 and I think plenty of them push Arsenal as well. A lot of my negativity is based on my own foresight and direction of travel, but it's not irredeemable and we've still got a good enough side to be competitive this season.

 

Oh and another is that Everton will be utter shit again. That will be funny and cheer us up.

The next year is going to be massive for us. We really need to keep our nerve and not panic buy this window e.g. Bednarek. Next summer the following are out of contract:

 

Kasper

Choudhury

Amartey

Bertrand

Mendy

Perez

Tielemans (sell this summer?)

Soyuncu (sell this summer?)

Vardy (renew on lesser terms?)

 

I can only imagine our wage expenditure will decrease considerably. We need to take advantage of this and keep it lower by going in for young, hungry players like Colwill who won’t command massive wages. 
 

I’m optimistic for the season ahead but also acknowledge that next summer will be our defining window in terms of long-term prospects.

For me, this team is pretty fragile mentally. When it became clear that we weren't going to challenge for the top 4 last season, we capitulated. I really got the sense that we were going through the motions in games, with some rare glimpse of urgency only occurring immediately after conceding, as though angered into some form of oomph. I get the impression that unless this team is motivated by the hanging carrot of potential success, they find it hard to get motivated.

 

I just think players will come into this season with little faith. We had a poor season last year and it doesn't look like we're adding much to that same squad.

 

I personally think that manifests itself in a lack of belief early doors and then a similar capitulation of sorts.

 

I have absolutely zero faith that we'll have addressed our glaring weakness in set pieces, and I think we'll continue to play conservative, risk-averse football.

 

We'll be languishing around the 13th-14th mark and Rodgers will get sacked with the World Cup break pending. We'll have a bit of a new manager bounce and finish 8th, 9th or 10th.
