He wins me over by resigning and admitting he can’t take the club forward. At the moment he is dragging us through the gutter and his own performance is much poorer than expected from someone of his pay grade and experience.

However, it’s pretty obvious that the 2 most important things to Brendan Rodger’s are ‘Brendan Rodgers’ and ‘money’, so like any magical improvement in coaching and team selection, it’s not going to happen.

It's a results business, so they say. If he starts getting results then why wouldn't you support him? Life's too short to hold a grudge.

That said, I can't see a way that he'll turn this around.

He can, if he changes things and gets results. He doesn't even have to apologise. I'm not somebody that is all that bothered by apologies, as I'd rather somebody just change or respond to the situation.

- 2 up top ot at least change the system

- win games that we'd expect to win, at home (Southampton, Villa, Brentford, Leeds, etc)

- talk positively about the squad we have and the fans

It’s a results game at the end of the day, right now the performances are not good enough and we are not getting the results and we don’t look like getting one.

However, if we were to turn it around, finish in the top 8 and pick up the league cup then of course your mind would change.
I don’t see that as being fickle, against Brighton it looked lost, the players did not look like they knew what they were doing, nor did they look like they were playing for the manager - at that point the manager needs to go, but if he can turn it around and get results then it would be madness to sack him.

The players came out of the tunnel for the second half and they all looked a mixture of livid, pissed off, and uninspired.

Are you kidding?

So you equate that to some type of fight?

No.

He'd have to get us back to winning ways and playing entertaining football, AND retract a lot of his recent comments AND rebuild the bridges he's burned with certain players/board/fans etc.

But to a large extent the damage has already been done, particularly in terms of players running down contracts/not wanting to be here. I think I'll always be wary of him and his motives (such as his tendency for self-preservation above all else), and that's not the kind of outlook I'll ever enjoy having. I'd much rather be able to relax and feel positive about our manager, but Rodgers' has lost that, for me.

He would have to make us a formidable side, taking us into the top half of the table playing great football (like the start of his reign). Unless he does that, the damage is too big. If the players backed him and you saw great performances on the pitch, people might warm back up to him.

However, this is Brendan and his track record proves nothing of that kind. He can win us back but he won't.

I dont believe anyone that says NO, guarantee, he turns it round and wins us a trophy, what are you miserable sods gonna do refuse to celebrate? haha as if.. ul be the first down that local swigging pints and singing. weerreeee MASSSIIVEEEE. fickle fans.

I wanted him gone 2 seasons ago. And yes greatfull for the fa cup but still wanted the selfish little cvnt and his borefest football gone. One cup dont make it better to me.

I have little to no interest in our games now and it's down to him.

Definitely not, he's got an awful character when the chips are down. Regardless of on the pitch (which has been horrific for a good 24 months bar a few good months in early 2021), we are going backwards as a club while he is manager.

This is me, I said in another thread that there's only been 3 games that I can remember that I've been excited about. Newcastle and Spurs when we unforgivably blew top 4 for the second time. Then of course the FA Cup final. I've watched every game out of habit, that I have been able to on tv, but I've largely felt nothing.

He can, but its unlikely. It would take some excellent performances and a run of great form (not just results but style of play) but then I guess we are all fearful a downturn would quickly follow.

You care to elaborate?  Maybe include a source?

Or are we now at the stage of throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks?

Was told Rodgers wanted to change the system and some of the players reacted big time, I won’t name players

I really don't get this.i fail to see why any player would want to play this system. It's bad enough watching it. Who would want to play that way.

Walking football in the prem ffs.

Obviously if he returned to having us play 19/20 football and we played gloriously every week and the players were happy and we won all our remaining games this year and were great to watch then. :dunno:

But let's be honest, that isn't going to happen. It's not about him winning me back it's about him winning the squad back.

We've had a slump in every season he's been here - he's never been able to arrest it.

Post restart in 19/20: 4W - 5D - 7L

From game 30 in 20/21: 3W - 1D - 5L

Tail end of last season we won 3 in 11, with the wins against relegated Norwich, Watford and then on the beach Southampton.

If he turned any of those runs of form around he wouldn't be under the same pressure he is now.

Some managers can take stock of a situation, do things they'd never do ordinarily and get different results - Rodgers can't. He just shuffles the deckchairs around on the Titanic. under  Puel even, we'd send Maguire up top and go really direct to reasonable effect. The second leg at Roma was the perfect demonstration we were going out and we meekly carried on with our ineffective plan A. Post match the players and manager trotted out "we gave it everything" when Roma would have been more troubled by 75% of championship teams win the same situation.

He's essentially a fair-weather manager and for us that's been 25% of the time over his tenure.

If we start dicking everyone from now on and climbing the table, then of course everyone will be more in favour of him staying. Winning football matches is good.

However, that scenario is unlikely.

This is exactly it for me.

For the last year or two I've been harping on about how the character of a squad reflects the tone set by a manager. I think we've really seen evidence over the last couple weeks of Rodgers in a crisis. The man can't lift himself let alone the team, just looks defeated. How are his players meant to be inspired?

You only have to look at Conte and Spurs to see the perfect example of this.

No, he will never win me back over now and I want him gone ASAP. Only exception would be if he gets us into the top 4 and even then there will always be the memory of how he acted when under pressure lurking below the surface tainting any achievements he makes. He will get no slack at all from our fans and rightly so.

However we also got to think about the future of the club, if we are sticking with him I'll support the team and try to create a positive atmosphere despite BR because its us who stand to lose if we do go down.

So in conclusion no but I'll tolerate him while he's still here IF he does start getting results - a big old IF.

I've lost respect for him. I just dont see him as our manager anymore. One of "us". He is an outsider who needs to leave for me.

He isnt going to fix a lot of the problems he has created - he will add to them but not fix them.

The Brendan Rodgers era is over for me.

Couldn’t have put it any better.

After the dust has setter after each poor performance this season and the end of last season, it’s ok to feel like his time here is up. It’s common now for managers to have this sort of life cycle. And let’s not forget he’s never been anywhere as long as he’s been here - and arguably it’s not just us where he’s struggled when it comes to building his own side after that initial 18-24 month period where he seems to walk on water. There’s a trend emerging where he is great at improving what he inherits, but it all goes a bit south when he puts his own stamp on things and builds his own side.
