It looks like City may do some rare winter business in the new year after the club took out a bank loan secured against future payments owed by Chelsea for Wesley Fofana. Manager Brendan Rodgers is eyeing a new full-back in January and City will have three-man lists of targets in each position. Rodgers has been working with head of recruitment Martyn Glover since September, and Glover is already tweaking and growing his team.

Highly-regarded scout Ian Marshall, has been promoted to UK scout for the first team after previously scouring the north of England for under-23s players. Marshall was previously Leeds United's regional scout manager for Scotland and the north of England, having also covered Yorkshire and the north east for Liverpool.

City are now looking for a senior scout to cover Germany as they expand their team of international scouts. It has not been too fruitful a market for Leicester over the years. The biggest success story has been Caglar Soyuncu arriving arrival from SC Freiburg, while Premier League champions Shinji Okazaki (Mainz) and Christian Fuchs (Schalke) also arrived from Germany.

The new international scout for Germany will join a team including the likes of former Man City and Newcastle scout Pablo Jacomuzzi, who covers Italy, Switzerland and France. The latter country, from which Leicester have signed the likes of Riyad Mahrez and N'Golo Kante, is considered by Glover as the most important international player market.

Germany is an important one too, and the new scout will have important work to do. Between 2014 and 2016, Leicester had brothers Sebastian and Benjamin Frank scouting Germany. Sebastian went on to scout for Liverpool, Borussia Dortmund and Eintracht Frankfurt; while Benjamin has since scouted for Crystal Palace and Dortmund.

Glover likes to have a small team of scouts based in the UK, with a similar structure abroad. Key markets such as France, Germany, Italy and Spain are key to cover off. Eastern European countries are less accessible now post-Brexit, but places like Brazil, Argentina and Mexico have opened up to clubs.

It's already pretty good! I'll focus my efforts on left footed right wingers in the Bundesliga pal

Whilst the team is strengthened in advance of the January transfer window, it is highly unlikely they will have any serious input of impact to this forthcoming window given there will be limited domestic football across any of the major leagues between now and the window opening. Most likely will be looking for potential additions in the summer or emerging talent that the club can track over next 12-18 months as potential replacements for players who move on

Probably not, but seeing that quite a few of our team are Belgian, and also Belgium are a rather good international team, it would make sense to have a look at youngsters, wouldn't it?

We scout that league heavily, I'd be amazed if we don't have a scout that's remit is that league, there will be.

Philippe Pelluault

I wouldn’t be surprised if we get a lot of data and reports from Leuven on the league as well

Articles like this actually frustrate me a little. I know you can’t cover the world but it does make you think that there are leagues that we just completely ignore.

If that perfect fit for us is in spain, is he just going to be missed because it’s not a focus area? :dunno:

...South America was the place to be looking for deals, we seemed to have like other teams, chosen to ignore it!!!

Aren't there big problems about players from South America having enough points to be allowed into the UK to play?

No, that used to be the case. It's now easier to sign players from South American leagues than many European Leagues because the Copa Libertadores is weighted very very highly (on a par with European competitions)

Brighton have made a few good signings from there. Enciso looks like he could be excellent

On par with Champions League even! And especially given the fact the Copa has less "fluff" than CL football (fewer nations, fewer top teams excluded), it means a lot of quality players have enough points.
