I'm not having that.

This was on purpose, it's like Keane on Haaland, I cannot recall a player of ours doing anything like this. Perhaps only, in recent years, only Benalouane in that Burton game, which people strangely found funny and circulated on social media.

I didn’t find the Benalouane funny at all. Was disgusting challenge.

You can be physical and push the boundaries - you can take a player out with a push or a shove but these challenges where there is no aim at the ball are a different level of cowardice

I seem to remember this challenge was so bad Shakespeare hauled him off immediately, sent him down the tunnel and no one even got hurt during this bad tackle.

So gutted for Alves, this sucks. Really hope he's alright mentally too and gets just as much support there as he does physically for the injury. I don't think I've ever seen youth players band together in response to one of their own getting injured before, so hopefully that shows they're all close and going to be there for him.

Get well soon Will. If anyone knows him or his dad, please do let them know we're all willing him back to health and fitness as soon as he safely can. Hopefully this doesn't affect his career.

Scum. That's one of the biggest displays of cowardice I've seen on a football pitch. Appreciate we'll all be fairly emotional and over protective given it's a young talent we all have such high hopes for but when being objective, it's an absolute disgrace. Whistle had long gone and he turns his back on Alves.

If I was in charge of the Wolves academy, I'd be binning him off immediately or at least selling him on if he's a good prospect. Hope his career turns sour and he has to really suffer considering he's potentially ruined Alves' whole life.

It's the intention though, not always the connection.

When there's no aim to win the ball they deserve to be hauled off.

Criminal proceedings will never be brought against anyone in an instance like this. Yes we all know he’s clearly gone to hurt him but to get someone convicted for something like this would be nigh on impossible. The club will have insurance as they do on every player contracted to the club. But at the very least Wolves should be paying for all medical treatment.

The ball is on the floor and his stoods are ubove this knee....he has gone in to injure him plus I reckon if it was a honest challenge you don't walk straight off the pitch you go and check on the injured player

....the best thing that he could do was to get out of there, his presence on the pitch would have poured more petrol on the fire!!!

To turn around, and go to the player he had just taken out, would have been sheer hypocrisy.

The wolves kid will remember that mistake for the rest of his life.

I hope Alves comes back.

No criminal proceedings could ever be undertaken in such circumstances. He has a lawful excuse with it being a competitive sport, which renders most if not all violent acts on a sports field to the discretion of the referee.

It will be up to the governing bodies to pass harsher punishments on players….. he will get away Scott free.

Will will recover completely ,don't worry about that . They are masters at repairing ligaments these days. My own son is witness to that. However he has to know , he will get heavy treatment throughout his career. He will need to work intensely on his physical development .Being a tough bastard is an important quality.

Competitive sport doesn't shield you from the laws of the land. You can't get away with assault simply because you're also playing football. Intent, if proven, makes the difference.

I'm sure Will was already well aware that he would receive some heavy treatment. But there is heavy treatment, and then there is someone trying to maim you. No amount of being a 'tough bastard' is going to protect you from challenges like that.

Absolutely. Yes it's a disgusting tackle but the kid is only 16, now a video of him literally assaulting another player has gone viral around the world with 2m views and his family and friends are targeting with abuse. He's 16. He made a mistake. But it only takes one idiot to take it too far.

Missing the fact where he's admitted to doing it deliberately. No place for that in the game and he should he dropped from the academy.

Being 16 isn't an excuse. Kids are stabbing each other at 12 these days. He should know better - he's in a Premier League academy and been playing with the under 21's and if he's going to act like an animal then he's going to have to learn to deal with the consequences. I'm not wishing ill on the family, but a 3 match ban is nothing.

In fact section 47 of the offences against the person act 1861 requires only the mens rea of recklessness, a lower bar than intention to harm.  Of course there are a number of complexities arising from the assault happening in a competitive sports environment, but you're absolutely right it does not provide absolute protection against recklessness or an intent to hurt someone by any means.
