Speak to Villa fans, it depends which version of them turns up.

Their upturn in form has been similar to our winning run pre-WC. They are semi-competent rather than really good.

Yet there's been games recently like Southampton away where they were wretched.

But importantly won the game. We can't even play badly and win, which is imperative in the situation we find ourselves in.

Feeling a bit negative today tbh. We could/will probably be in a shite place after the next 4 games.

Saturday really needs to be three points.

We're not in a good place for Saturday, in terms of injuries.

Looking better for Spurs, but we could be well in the mire by then.

Still have half the season to go. memories of the great escape in 2015 ?

I love your in depth knowledge Ric, you really do know your players in Europe and beyond.

We'll just have to gloss over your assessment of Daka when he signed, that he would become one of the world's best strikers. He still has some way to go! Even the great managers like Clough, Ferguson and O'Neill signed some duds.

Hahahahahaaa, I made reference to this on the latest BSLB Podcast. I was so sure that Daka would be electric for us and I'm still baffled how badly 2022 has gone for him, after a fairly decent start to his career.

I've even more certainty over Tete though due to the way we play and the system we play that he slots in a 4-3-3 / 4-2-3-1 and he doesn't have weaknesses that need to be patched up by a particular way of playing. Daka seems ike he can't develop to play the lone striker role as it stands, although I'm fascinated to see what happens to him with Barnes and Tete either side and Maddison behind to see if he gets more space to run on to and finish. His link up play is diabolical and I've had my fingers burnt there massively.

Can't remember a season like this one, where you could make a great case for half the table could have a case made for them to go down, at this point. I'm sure someone will correct me.

Yes I too have very high hopes for Tete. We certainly need him to have an immediate impact to drag ourselves away from danger.

I was rather concerned though when I heard Tim Vickery on the radio yesterday saying how greedy he was as a player when younger. "The team needed one ball for him and one ball for the rest of them". Hopefully he's matured as a player in the last few years.

Didn't he say he watched him play once. Hardly the oracle

Yes I think it was for one of the Brazil younger age groups as Tete has played most if not all of his club football in Europe. But trust me, Tim Vickery is the oracle of South American football. As I say Tete is quite a bit older now so hopefully he has matured somewhat.

Do we know if our new left-back can play on the right if Timmy gets injured? Bit short of cover as Ricky P still not ready, JJ crocked and Sharky gone on loan. Big Dan?

They've been quite miserly, unless the morale uplift really lets the handbrake off I can't see us creating much. They've conceded < 1.0 xG in 5 out of 7 league game since Don Emery has been there.

Brendan Rodgers Pre-Match Press Conference vs Aston Villa

Injuries?

Ricardo will play in a game next week. He’s looked great in training.”

U21's aren't playing next week so guessing we've set up a BCD game for him. Maybe Brentford B.

I'm intrigued to see exactly how long "delighted with the business" and "I’m confident we have the squad we want" lasts

I predict around 5 o’clock on Saturday afternoon.

Criminal if he dosen’t start Nacho for this one. Dreading the thought of Daka running around like a headless chicken with no holdup play.

You’re giving me stomach ache just thinking of Daka starting 😂

I think a lot of people forget that players are humans too and have stuff in their personal lives that will effect how they play, we all know Wilf is a shadow of himself lately , hopefully he comes back like his old self

You know what this would explain a lot. Ndidi was at one point the best CDM in the league, even better than Kante in terms of tackles and interceptions. This was just before Fabinho and Rodri really got going. Players can fall off (look at Maddison), but Wilf's fallen off so much, and this is unusual given that he plays a pretty basic game - win the ball back and / or block it. His game shouldn't be so reliant on confidence, but of course it still matters.

Get ready for

“New players take time to settle, unfortunately they didn’t have a pre season so we are not likely to see the best of them till next season”

Tete is massive for us. It moves Maddison centrally and then straight away we have at least 2 forwards who can get the ball and not lose it immediately. I still think we should get Nacho in the starting line up because his link up play with much better forwards could be great to watch.

Ward

Castange Amartey (sounds like Soutts won’t be ready) Faes Kristensen

Mendy KDH

Tete Maddison Barnes

Nacho

Agreed, what does Nacho have to do to start one game, never mind a string of them. This is the same player who scored 17 goals two seasons ago and was our leading scorer.

Do we not remember last season where Nacho decided to chip keepers every week and got sod all output. He's not the messiah just because he's not playing. I'm actually really interested to see if Tete opens up more opportunities for Daka and if playing out both wings stretches the opposing defense.

I know his knowledge on South American football. It's perfect for sending me to sleep on a Sunday evening.
