Sampaoli is muck compared to Lopetegui and Emery though IMO. I'd have him here for a year but I doubt he'd achieve much but would at least shake things up significantly.

At one time, he was better than the pair of them but now he's damaged goods. Be an utter disaster in England.

So what does Rodgers do to the players?

All of our players who have spoken publicly all talk highly of him, bar Vestergaard - but he's hardly helped himself by being crap when he has played.

Even Schmeichel, who some claim fell out with him, spoke really highly of Rodgers in his recent piece (I think with the Athletic) and said his man-management skills are brilliant.

That doesn't necessarily mean all of them think that, of course, as not every member of the squad has spoken, but the evidence that we do have suggests that the players and Rodgers have a good relationship, for the most part.

There is no doubting Sampaoli is a good manager, but he's just a lunatic and I don't like that sort of personality in a football manager. All the best ones that I have ever played under (albeit not Premier League level :D) are the ones who are level-headed. It's a bit like Pearson, for all the good he done he would still let himself down with some of his stupid comments and head loss moments.

A lot of people seem to think our squad is "soft", so I don't think that they'd gravitate and react well to someone like Sampaoli IMO.

Exactly, they all think that but the majority(of course exceptions) have regressed on the pitch. Nigel Pearson man management is levels above Brendan Rodgers.

He might be perfectly happy in the Netherlands and want to stay there long-term, but I still think he would consider most Premier League sides, even if he wins the Eredivisie this season - the money alone would be more than he can get in any other league. He's fluent in English - no language barrier like in Spain or Germany.

If he did want to come to the PL, he's not going to walk into a big 6 job, and he's not going to get a job at an overperforming PL side. That probably rules out United, City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs, Newcastle, Brighton, Brentford, Fulham. There's a bunch of bottom half teams that have recently appointed new managers. Palace maybe attractive but they will want someone in immediately, and I'm not convinced he leaves Netherlands before the end of the season. If he has any ambitions to manage over here, it would most likely have to be at a middle-of-the-road side who he could build something with - Southampton, Leeds, Bournemouth, West Ham, Leicester - surely we are a half decent option in that mix?

Might be talking myself into it.

EDIT: Just to add, there have been reports that suggest Feyenoord would look to bring in Jon Dahl Tomasson from Rovers if Slot moves in the summer. So it sounds like there is succession planning going on.

He seemed to appreciate the Leeds interest but didn't want to leave Feyenoord in their current position mid-season, which I think is completely fair enough. I think if he won the league and we stayed up we could actually pull it off. People don't appreciate the pull this league has, when Villa who've been crap for years can go and take Emery just like that. We could do the same. Our reputation may not be justified right now but I still think there's enough credit for us to attract somebody like this.

Clearly the likes of Tuchel and Poch, or any manager of that level, is unattainable. Having said that, Villa and Wolves managed to attract their respective bosses and whenever Rodgers leaves (most likely to be the off season now) we shouldn't side our ambition. Just depends of course what league we'll be heading into next season.

Agree - which is why it's probably best that Rodgers stays for now and (hopefully) keeps us up, then we move him on in the summer. I dunno, can't see any decent solution at present.

I don't know how realistic a target he'd be but what have our resident Europhiles made of Xabi Alonso at Leverkusen? Second bottom when he took over in October, now 8th having won 10 from 17 in the league and beating Bayern at the weekend.

He’s turned them round brilliantly but I think it has to be put into context. This was a very good Leverkusen side who were massively under-performing so it was always going to be making the ‘right’ change there rather than needing any sort of rebuild.

That said, they pulverised Munich at the weekend, limiting them to very few shots and being much the better side.

Agree with them underperforming they finished 3rd last year, so was likely that a change in manager would have seen them improve. I wouldn't say they pulverised Munich though, Munich still had more shots on target and both of Leverkusen's goals were penalties, they played well but they didn't batter them. Not many teams will do it to Munich though so fair play

I genuinely think if we finished 8th or 9th, it wouldn't make anymore managers wanna come here compared to finishing 15th or 16th.

Guys/Lasses, please bear in mind that Rodgers will probably be here even after this tricky period - like it or not..

There aren't any realistic appointments right now. It's nearly end of season. There are 2 options for Top. Splash 20m and appoint Conte now for a rebuild. Or wait for the end of season and make a good offer to William Still.

..Conte would be off in less than a season!!!

He finds so many ways to extricate himself from clubs, you can't think long term with him.

Is Conte wrong in what he's saying? He's genuine. He's passionate. I didn't want to say it but there you are, the guy is polically incorrect and I like him.
