World Football Thread 2023/2024

Maybe its time for hockey style glass at games to keep tw@ts out. Buys enough time to get off the pitch before glass is broken and someone atttacked. Might help with pitch invasions too.

Probably knee jerk reaction but nobody should have access to the field of play other than immediate coaching staff , players, refs, ball boys/girls and medical personnel.

Interesting rule changes in the MLS for next season..

🇺🇸The NEW RULE that the MLS will implement starting with the 2024 season.

◉ If a player who leaves does not leave the field of play within 10 SECONDS, the player who enters must wait 60 SECONDS to enter the next interruption. During the waiting period and before the substitute enters, the team will play with ONE MAN LESS.

◉ Additionally, if a player, with a suspected injury, remains on the ground for more than 15 SECONDS, the referee will stop the game and send the medical team to the field to evaluate the player. When safe, the player will be removed and remain off the field for a minimum of TWO MINUTES for further evaluation and treatment.

Yeah, that's cool, but when are they bringing back sudden death shoot outs at the end of a tie? lol

Genuinely, I loved that!

The rest of world football needs to bring in something like this.

Or how about just Sudden Death if a team loses?

It is America after all....

Overtime, baby!

But seriously, back to your original points...

Should cut down on feigning injuries, but it severely punishes teams who have genuine injuries.

I still like the idea of 60 minutes with the clock stopping every time play is dead.

The US would be the perfect place to trial it, it fits in with the sporting culture there.

If they're genuinely injured then 2 minutes on the sideline where they can be treated won't be an issue.

2 minutes is a long time in relation to a football match.

Yes, if its a head injury and concussion protocols need to be followed, it's understandable, but not for a genuine non head injury.

Look at it this way, it's the 115th minute of an FA Cup semi-final, your team is 2-1 up. They're the underdogs and have put everything on the line. The other team are bombarding you, pushing for an equaliser, but your centre back has given everything and genuinely has cramp.

No way you can withdraw him for 2 minutes and potentially lose the game.

Girona are absolutely brilliant. Started watching them for obvious reasons this season but some of the football they play is sublime.

Same - I used to live there a few years ago. They are a great watch - and I have a lot of very happy friends in the region. When I was there they were ordinary to say the least! (A bit like Leicester)

In that case common sense should prevail. The game doesn’t need stopping for cramp. The player shouldn’t be writing around in pain, so the ref shouldn’t stop play. If they are, then they deserve the 2 minutes off the field.

I know that’s not what the rules say, but surely the refs should be allowed to treat each incident objectively.
