Just play Souttar. If we go and spend handsomely on another short term replacement then we've learnt nothing.

On the flip side, if you employ a manager who wants specific tools, just telling him to use the wrong tool for the job is not learning anything.

Its tough luck if he is out for start of season already (mentioned in second BBC article now), but if its more than a few months they should be funding another player in my opinion.

Also adds further questions about seagrave.  The injury situation remains ridiculous.

I am in the anti stock pile CB brigade though.

You're going to have to make your mind up on that one.

I don't mind loaning a player, but we shouldn't be committing ourselves to a player for 3-5 years because a player is out for 3/4 months lol

If he’s back before the window ends then no drama. Just play Souttar or Vestergaard (ugh) there until he returns.

Well my issue is that he is central to the manager's plans, probably one of his two most important signings, the other being the keeper. 3/4 months is as good as half the season, when you consider getting back up to speed, match fitness etc.

Last time I checked we want up this season, we building for promotion this season not 5 year planning.

Hopefully its nothing like that long and just 4-6 weeks maximum.

What happens next season? What happens if we don't go up and we have another salary to support?

I understand where you're coming from but long term strategy has to come ahead of short-term thinking if we ever want to be consistently decent.

What I do know is we will be in a better position next season if we in the EPL instead of the EFL.

We in this position now of course due to lack of long term strategy.  Any club in our position especially with our wage bill, would only be thinking about going straight back up.  In short this decision could have much bigger long term consequences, than one extra p[layer on the books.  It could also be someone on loan or short term contract, no one said it had to be a expensive 3+ year commitment.

I think we won't find much common ground other than appreciating each others view as we clearly have massively different ideas on how a club should be ran :D

All irrelevant hopefully anyway, I think as a foot injury will likely be less than a month or two and one of our other 3 or 4 CBs that we already have will be able to fill in.

The mad thing is, Coady isn't even a good defender. Braybrooke could probably play the position in 3/4 months :D

Trying to look at the positives from this, as has been covered by just about everyone when he joined, is that his leadership qualities will still be present in the dressing room.

Obviously I'd sooner him be starting, but of all players who can still offer something without moping about the place, it'll be him.

Last appearance over a year ago for Denmark

yeah, because he had such a good season last year!

Of course he wasn't going to be involved, but that doesn't take away from the fact that he has played for them at every level including 35 first team appearances.

& there are plenty of teams in this league who play a lot of direct stuff. Plenty of balls loaded into the box & he is nothing short of pathetic in the air, which is scandalous.

Well i've only really seen the handful of performances he's made for us, so i'll defer to your clearly more complete understanding of his game ;)

We’ll know more today from the press conference but Tanner’s update is promising:

“The club have not given details of what is currently wrong with Coady, but Maresca has stated he fears it could be “not good”. It is, however, believed Coady is unlikely to be out for long beyond the first game.”

That 'not good' quote came in the same article that said he was going for a scan - so not necessarily the final word on it.-

But that doesn't give any more info than we have about coady?  He has a knee injury and will mis an unspecified amount of time :dunno:

Coady?

“Unfortunately Coady is not with us and probably won’t be with us for the next games. We don’t know. We are still waiting to see how he improves. They are still analysing the situation.”

Apparently broken foot which he had before he joined and wasn’t picked up in the medical.

Please say this is a windup, this would be a new level of incompetence even for us…

Who performs the medicals these days? Our staff or external people? If the latter would we have legal recourse if this is true?

How can an injury take more than 2 weeks to analyse?

The only reason I could think of is if they are waiting to see how he improves from whatever treatment he is being given?

It could be that it’s not long term but they also can’t say if it will be 2/3 weeks or less and given the injury and where it is, that they are taking each day as it comes. I think it will be Cardiff at home when he makes his debut.

They'll know. It's going to be a long time, they just don't want to announce it because it will weaken our hand in negotiations.

Exactly, Taylor Harwood-Bellis and an experienced CB to bring in would be my assumption.
