Pretty sure a lot of rumours were that Madders seemed very keen on the move to Newcastle, as they’re much more likely to be playing regularly in the Champions League than Spurs are. Newcastle is a great place for young people to socialise but it is bloody cold especially when the wind blows off the sea. Definitely not for everybody. No doubt there were financial issue but Maddison is clearly very close to his immediate family and has a young family of his own, i doubt he wanted to be that far away from them.
