Delighted for him and his performance yesterday in what was a tough return to top flight Football.

It's reassuring to know that if Mads goes we have two good GKs to take his place in Jakub and Iversen.

Those saying Iversen was better than Ward don't seem to recall the 2022-23 season. When he replaced Ward he may have shown a little more confidence (not difficult) but was absolutely dreadful with the ball at his feet. And I recall him conceding a bad free kick goal, may have been Everton at home?

Ward had his confidence issues, but either of them behind the shocking defence we had in 22-23 was a car crash.

I'm much happier with Stolarczyk 👍🏼

No chance Ward ever makes the saves at 1:40 and 2:15 here

My Manchester United supporting work colleague said after we were relegated that if we hadn't had Danny Ward in goal we would have stayed up, that tells you all you need to know , and twat Rodgers knew that as well, absolute bastard bellend.

Can you ask your Man Utd supporting work colleague for next week's lottery numbers? No, I thought not.

He got motm against Everton at home, making 3 or 4 good saves. He was shocking away to Fulham conceding the shocker of a fk and 4 others which was grim. Had iversen played the full season no way would we have gone down, we scored as many as spurs that season (afair), I don’t think we’d have finished top half but we’d have comfortably stayed up. Iversen was a top half champ shot stopper which is all we needed, yes he was and is poor with his feet but Ward is hardly ederson.

As you say though, Stolarczyk is head and shoulders above Iversen.

Ward was terrible, but so was the defence in front of him.

In my opinion Iversen really wasn't the answer. He had no idea with ball at his feet. And I don't recall the stats improved when Iversen was actually starting?

Not to say leaving Ward as our first choice keeper was a good idea, but picking on Ward when our entire defensive line was shite is a little revisionist.

What other pearls of wisdom did your Man U supporting work colleague offer up?

Don't get me wrong, Ward was shite, but blaming our relegation on one individual is absolute bollocks.

If Ward hadn’t played in goal for us and we’d kept Schmeichel or played Iversen for the full season, we wouldn’t’ve been relegated, simple as that. We were relegated by 3 points, Ward personally cost us way more than that. The goalkeeper is arguably the key position on the pitch, if they can’t do their job as the last line of defence (ie. make saves) then there’s a problem.

As has been said, Ward is hardly ederson, but at least Iversen could make saves. As has been gone over and over again, with the amount of goals we scored we just needed a champ level keeper to keep us up, which Iversen is. No matter how bad the defence is Ward made it worse, he never bailed them out and it was like refusing to wear a stab vest and then provoking a gang of 10 who had knives. Nothing revisionist about it

Ah if only that volley from Castagne went in...

If you used Dean smith’s points per game alone, you had enough to stay up

If only we had your Manchester United supporting work colleague as manager, we would’ve survived!

He will be dissapointed with their 1st but the ball was at an awkward height and he needed our defence to get to the rebound.

but overall I am hugely impressed with him a very good shot stopper commands his box well and very vocal, but the thing that impressed me the most today was his range of passing which was as good as anyone on the pitch.

Apart from the 2 he smashed straight out of play at the start of each half lol

I haven't seen it back but I was hoping with the save he'd have pushed it further out wide but that'd be being pedantic. He is already a much better keeper than Ward.

Don't need him losing confidence if Mads is out for longer. Overall he's been a massive improvement on Ward. Can see him being our number 1 when Hermandsen goes

I mean, if that’s Ward it’s in. He probably should have got a stronger wrist on it, but overall his performance was miles better!

He'll learn from it and put it out for a Corner the next time. Overall he played well while he continues to gain experience.

Absolutely no debate between Jakub and Ward, he's infinitely better.

A cardboard cutout has more athleticism than Ward, he's stolen a living as a professional footballer.

Jacob doing the best he can he’s just not at MADDs level and there is no shame in that. We just have to support him and hope he starts to improve and play out of his skin for the good of our premier league survival. The whole team’ needs to step up in fact.

It’s a mistake that he’s unfortunate to be punished for, wasn’t helped out at all.

He’ll learn from that and be better for it, nothing to worry about as he was very assured otherwise.

his wrist is too strong actually, hence it being pushed back out rather than tipping round, but I think you're nitpicking to blame Stolarcyk for the goal, he's done the right thing in tipping it wide and creating an awkward angle, and he's up quickly to force the shot, but is hung out to dry by the right side (JJ and Buonanotte) not anticipating a rebound.

Can’t half imagine the reaction from some if the first goal happens with Ward in goal. A mistake he will learn from of course but another decent enough performance.
