Bear with me here as i know this is a little outlandish, but he reminds me of how Watkins first looked. He played on the wing exclusively but kept scoring ‘strikers goals’ brentford got some other outstanding wingers in benhrama and mbwemo  and moved him central and he just fitted like a glove… now when you look at him he’s one of the most comfortable number 9’s in the game.

If he could develop a hold up game it could genuinely be the best thing he could do for his career.

on the wing, while his work rate is great there is just a lack of flare to beat a man that seems to hold him back. He out runs people sure, but when they are quick he looks ineffective.

I’ve really not noticed that pace you have - but if it’s effortless maybe it’s one of those languid running styles that’s deceptively quick - I’ll watch him more closely!!

If he has got that pace then even more reason to play him through the middle?? I just don’t see him having a trick to get past his full back, but his shooting is ok, he’s strong enough, quick enough (especially given the above) and determined enough. It’s a lot harder to find a striker than a winger so conversion may be an answer to the budget question

Pace always goes wide. Handy if you have acceleration too, still not sure he has fine tuned that part of his game.

Looks best on the break out wide with acres to run into.

Said it from the start, but he's got a bit of the Andy King knack of finding space in the box despite other limitations.

He's a useful player to have, never hurts to have a goalscoring midfielder. I'd like to see him play more regularly in a central position (as a 10), and to be honest I reckon we will with our lack of forward options going into next season.

Ive been a critic of his previously but i agree with this. His knack for getting in the right positions and scoring goals could suit him very nicely in a more striker role.

Players develop and change positions all the time. As a wide player or an 8 we know he has an eye for goal. He's not exactly blessed with pace but for anyone playing up top without it, it's movement, anticipation and finishing that's key. I reckon he has the mentality and the willingness to learn and develop to succeed as a 9 or 10. It would be remarkable and incredibly enjoyable as a fan if he were able to do it.

Happy to keep him as a squad player for next season

However if we somehow got a £10m offer from Sunderland again then we have to take it, gives us a lot of PSR space to play around with

I got laughed at when i said he'd be a big player for us next season.

I’ve got a lot of time for McAteer.. yes he might not be an absolute technical wizard who loves to take on a man and can change the game in an instant.. but boy works hard no matter what, always puts in a shift and has a decent eye for goal.

I reckon he’ll be a decent option for us again back in Championship.. pleased for him for getting his first international goal last night!

He isnt starting ahead of Abdul Stephi or Monga

Get rid or pmay him up front

Lots of midweek games in the championship

he’ll get plenty of game time

players in form should be playing rather than the best players who might be out of form.  We have to spread the load next season.

People are getting a bit carried away about a missed header from 6 yards and turning the rebound into an empty net from 3 yards out

It was a pretty unreal save to be fair, don't think a lot of players would have reacted that fast to slam home the rebound because you're expecting the next to bulge first time. It shows he's capable of quick thinking in the box, which is a great thing to have in a player.

I know it's kicking him when he's down a bit, but could you imagine Daka having the brains to do that at present? Assuming he'd even get in the position to make that header, he'd probably short circuit and set on fire trying to process what was happening.
