On a serious note I just think that the dividing line between demanding, driven coach and bully is very thin and will very by personal perceptions. Very true. The two classic examples in football were Fergie and Clough who were a bit of both but can across as horrible people who were awful to others. Can't deny their successful records at all and some of their former players still talk about them being an important influence in their career despite their tough ways. Another thing is whether they are being tough to get results or tough for their own ego? Big difference between the two. Edited 20 July 2024 by Nalis 1

For her, $$$$ For the republicans, ex UK prime minister validating Trump into the Whitehouse. Boris is there doing the same grift and Farage decided to travel as well.
Dunge Posted 20 July 2024 Posted 20 July 2024 I’m willing to give Boris a pass because of his position on Ukraine and climate change. Someone has to be making the case to Trump and he won’t listen to those who don’t schmooze him. Truss and Farage are another matter. 2

What an international embarrassment she is. I am ashamed as a Canadian. This is ultimate cringe. Why doesn't she just lick his ring behind the scenes instead? Oh wait...
st albans fox Posted 20 July 2024 Posted 20 July 2024 Bella Hadid's Adidas advert dropped after Israeli criticism https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/ceqdwpv8vw1o you have to wonder how ignorant one of the largest global sporting companies can be ? (Especially given how many hundreds of millions their Yeezy debacle with Kanye ended up costing them) nothing wrong with Hadid and her politics - but the basis of the trainer - Munich ‘72 is surely a red flag on this ?? It’s actually incredible the more you think about it. 2

Sampson Posted 21 July 2024 Posted 21 July 2024 Just the way she speaks is so weird and unnatural. Generally baffled she even made as an MP, let alone was the prime minister.

The fact she ever got up to being put forward as an mp candidate in the first place, then won, then got nominated as leader of the party with enough MPs seconding her even before that is baffling enough.

Daggers Posted 21 July 2024 Posted 21 July 2024 The banking crash really did a number on western politics. The left went culty, the right went cvnty, and the rest of us are staring at them in disbelief.

I think it's more that mainstream politicians proved themselves mostly incapable of responding to post 2008 challenges and so inevitably many people started drifting towards traditionally more extreme political positions.

The fact she ever got up to being put forward as an mp candidate in the first place, then won, then got nominated as leader of the party with enough MPs seconding her even before that is baffling enough. Well, this is where it becomes more complex. The Conservative Party is made up of various internal groupings who have their own ideas on what it means to be Conservative - you may have heard of the “5 families” term, that has been used of late to indicate the ideological splits within the party? One of these groups is the Conservative Growth Group or CGG who’s ideas centre around the economy - they want free markets, lower taxes and smaller state - and a key idea behind all this; implementing Keynesian style economics. With Johnson resigning, this group probably saw Truss - who had been Cosplaying as Margaret Thatcher for the best part of a year - as the best choice they had within their ranks to get their hands on the reigns of power. I also estimate that within the group they probably viewed Truss as a ‘useful idiot’ - a puppet they could manage - after all this is someone that’s gone from being a Lib Dem, a Remainer and a fanatic of ‘Pork Markets’ to a staunch Brexiter. Clearly what they didn’t account for was what would happen once Truss got her head in front, as she ploughed head first into metaphorical fence after metaphorical fence whilst trying to bolt towards the finish line - and how much reflective damage this has caused to the image of their economic ideas. Suffice to say, the descriptive ‘useful’ is no longer used when referring to Truss.
