:dunno: I'll say it again - IMO if Southgate was a big, bruising, blood and guts longball "4-4-fvcking-2" merchant with a jovial, no-prisoners, "speaks his mind" manner to the media and the population as a whole, he'd get much more praise from the fanbase for the same tournament results with the same squad as he does now.

The media absolutely love him.

Englands fans criticise him because he's taken a very good crop of players and turned them into perennial nearly men. I appreciate there's some luck to football but to twice lead very early in big games (Croatia and Italy) and contrive to lose both is bad management.

With maybe the exception of France we have by far the best squad and he's had plenty of time. There's no excuses for him.

A lot of the tactical criticism of him based on those matches is legit.

But my point stands that he'd get an easier ride from the fanbase if his persona was different.

I agree hence my dislike of him is contrarian. I usually can't stand the 'non league mate game's gone mate KPFC mate ticket office shambles mate non league mate' daily mail crowd and agree if City had Terry from the street in charge lumping it forward every chance, our wobble from Feb - April would not have got as much negative attention.

However Southgate has somehow managed to turn a group of elite winners into losers. Man City, Liverpool, Real Madrid even West Ham!!!! have won things in recent times, these players can cope with pressure and have elite mentality. However they won't win a thing under Southgate. An average manager shouldn't be celebrated simply for YoY growth IMO

They did in 74, they did in 78, they did in 96, they did in 98, they did in 2021 yep the scots are doing it again... going home in first round lol

At least give us some credit,    we did it in 82 and 86 and 90 as well 👍

Consistency is key.

Sunday fine, 8pm games fine but dear oh dear, the chances of England V Denmark game cropping up on my peak day of the hay fever season, I might just have to, "achoo", leave work early, "sneeze"

Did a Euro 2024 predictor, had Portugal to beat England in the final.

England's route to the final was a tasty Scotland round of 16, Italy in the quarters and a favourable semi final (obviously) against Poland.

Yup! And we will do it with a smile and a song. Scotland = A haven for white, plastic, garden chairs.

If Big Sam hadn't been caught with his fingers in the till and got the same results Southgate has got over the last the tournaments, the majority of the fanbase would be worshipping the ground he walks on. :D

Sam Matterface will be spectacularly awful tonight.

Can't wait for his scripted, pre-planned "ad libs"....and then there's Lee Dixon :(

I just can’t engage with Mark Pougatch on ITV, just something in his voice.

Love their pundits over the BBC but he’s just killing it for me.

Commentating on England matches isn't easy but Guy Mowbray sounded like a Darren Fletcher tribute act. He has regressed in the past few years. Shearer was fine.
