It was actually Rodgers who was spot on when he said we should sell and not be afraid. The club should’ve listened.

I thought Rodgers asked them not to sell after the fa cup win?

Proper loser mentality, I know, but that win today guarantees that the absolute worst we can be is the joint fifth worst side in Premier League history (from a 38 game season).

Derby County 2007-08: 11 points
Sunderland 2005-06: 15 points
Sheffield United 2023-24: 16 points
Huddersfield Town 2018-19: 16 points
Aston Villa 2015-16: 17 points

The question for me is where do Southampton rank among them.

If they finish with fewer points than Derby, I think it's more a reflection of how much stronger the league as a whole is now (the top sides were arguably better back then in relation to the overall stadard of football). I don't believe that they're actually a worse side.

Goes to show the gulf between the two leagues. This Southampton team is being spoken about as being potentially the worst team in Premier League history, yet if that team were in the championship this season, I'm convinced they'd win it.

I  can never understand how high the championship is  rated with expereienced managers saying how difficult it is when  virually every year at least 2 of the relegated sides are in the top 6  and  sides from div 1 promoted  do  no where as badly as  sides going into the Premier

If we went down and lost Vardy to retirement, Buonanotte back to Brighton, sold El Khanouss and Hermansen, Soumare leaves on a free, I'd expect our team to at least finish comfortably top six in the championship and be pushing for automatics, depending on who went down with us and whether or not we have a points deduction.

We could field a team like

Jakub

Justin, Faes, Jannick, Kristiansen

Winks, Ndidi

Fatawu, BDR/Ayew, Mavididi

Daka

That team is comfortably better than at least 20/21 sides currently in the championship, possibly more, and that's without signing anyone.

Looking at fixtures I feel Wolves remaining set looks more favourable than ours.

Who knows

Their next few are pretty tough. Villa a tough game and a derby. Liverpool and Bournemouth. However, ours are not much better. Everton in form and away from home. Arsenal and Brentford.

Both teams still have to play Ipswich and Saints as well as each other. I think whoever gets the most points out of those will stay up.

There’s people actually moaning on social media that Tyrone Mings didn’t get booked for this!

You’ve partly answered your own question. Social media.

Add to that 24/7 coverage and the armchair.

It will come down to those five games at the end of the season. If we can keep in turn come out of the Molineux game looking good, then it’s game on.

The other thing is that there is going to be a lot of lower half fodder as there’s a top set who are beginning to pull away. While teams such as West Ham et al have nothing to play for

Notts only 5 points above 8th as it stands. Would laugh my arse off at a full collapse from them, regardless of if we stay up or not.

With Man City, Newcastle and Chelsea all behind them too. There's no chance they get Champions League football. I think even Bournemouth and Villa will finish above them. All this to end up playing some Latvian pub team in the Conference League.

Booked for catching the ball? I mean it's a tricky one because technically it is a yellow.. the game is decided on such fine margins you can't have people in other games just deciding when they want to go off like that and breaking up play. Similar to those players that have 'head injuries' when they've been caught somewhere else. Likewise, someone takes their shirt off in celebration and it's a nice message, not political or gambling etc it's better to just be consistent and give the card when everyone knows the rules. Maybe I'm being harsh.

almost as good as Burnley qualifying for Europe for the first time since the English channel formed and ending up with a trip to Aberdeen
