5 years ago. Soyuncu was in the PL team of the year 6 years ago and now he's playing in Turkey.

If you actually watch him play football he clearly lacks quality but people are gaslighting themselves that he will tear up the division next season because he was good on loan half a decade ago.

If you compare him to Dewsbury Hall for example who was our star player in the championship last time around there's a clear gap in quality. You could point to KDH's ball carrying, playmaking, athleticism and runs into the box and say those were his key qualities.

What exactly does Skipp do well? His positioning is very poor, often times he is left standing like a statue whilst the opposition bypass him, his passing isn't good, he's not particularly energetic, he's short, he's not a goal threat, he's not press resistant, he doesnt progress the ball up the pitch well, often times just laying it straight back to the centrebacks. When he was in the championship last time around he was a lot more mobile and a lot more confident, that's all gone.

I’d pretty much agree with all of this, the only thing I would say to counter it is that KDH really didn’t show us any of them things in the season we got relegated and Skipp has been playing infrequently in a team that was significantly worse and more dysfunctional.

You could obviously come back on that and say the fact he still couldn’t get in a team so shit says it all, which is probably fair, but Skipp isn’t going anywhere so let’s at least give him a chance.

I don’t think the ridiculous stonking fee we paid has helped him.

I can imagine he’s quite a self aware guy; so the notion of apparently being worth £25 million pounds might not be the easiest thing to reconcile.

Obviously the hope now is a fresh season might see him settle and grow into confidence and just play football… but I can’t help think his legend at this club will become similar to that of Junior Lewis.

No one will ever reach those dizzy heights again. No one!

The fee is ridiculous and looks worse every day, but surely as a pro you aren’t that acutely aware of it.

I think he could do alright in the Championship but I wouldn’t be hanging my hat on it based on his season there with Norwich.

In all the clips for Norwich he looks a completely different player, mobile, combative, quick-footed, pinging passes all over the place.. Whether or not its a confidence thing I don't know, but that season was 4/5 years ago and physically he looks and moves completely differently now..

I'd love him to come good but his standout season was quite a while ago tbh and there wasn't even a glimmer of anything approaching decent last year..

For a ball winner, he doesn't half get passed around as if he isn't there a lot.

He may have been a victim of Cooper's more passive style of play and RVN's distinct lack of any identity at all, so I'm willing to cut him some slack and hopefully we'll see more of his natural game at (a) a level below last season in the Championship and (b) under Cifuentes who emphasises pressing and winning the ball back quickly.

It didn't seem much in evidence from Skipp himself last weekend but it's early days and hopefully he can come good as Cifuentes imposes his style on the team.

He gets a clean slate from me for this season.

Slate won't be clean for long though so he's going to need to hit the ground running! lol

Agreed.

Midfield trio should be Winks, Skipp and Alves going into August.

In an ideal world we could play him for the first couple of games, make a decision on whether he's going to fit the system and shift him if not.

But obviously because we are run by "experienced businessmen!" we massively overpaid and probably have him on huge wages so we don't have a hope in hell of getting rid.

Dewsbury Hall at least showed some quality in our relegation season and was good for us the season before that where we finished 8th.

Skipp on the other hand i just struggle to see how he's going to contribute for us next season but this time last time we went down i was strongly questioning the use of Ndidi as a an attacking midfielder which somehow worked out so what do i know? The championship is crap after all.

So what you’re saying is you really rate him?

KDH had a few good games the year before but was generally quite poor for the second half of that season and still struggled when we got relegated. Skipp had ok spells at spurs as well don’t forget.

I know it's not entirely accurate but Dewsbury Hall's whoscored rating in our 22/23 season was higher than any PL season Skipp has had. I genuinely dont think he was that bad that season, his worst performances for us would still be better than most of the ones Skipp had for us last season.

Still makes me sick to think we were in financial dire straits but for 1 last roll of the dice. Our last £25million we had available to take a gamble with, we spent it on Oliver F****** Skipp. Actually unbelievable

It was so clear last summer, just like this summer, how desperate we were for a striker to be our ‘star’ signing

Yet we spaffed all our money on Skipp and panic-loaned Edouard

Can’t wait to see how we repeat it this summer

And yet we wouldn’t pay out for Corberan.
Absolutely shocking.
