I'm genuinely lost that this can be such a popular opinion.

It's tragic how many of our fans are easily impressed by someone putting effort in. Always been the way.

Are we back to the days of just being happy with Iain Hume?

Ayew has managed one goal, a gift, no assists, went three games in a row without a shot on target, is too slow to press effectively, repeatedly fails to get his head up and look for team mates, constantly wasted possession shooting from outside the box and slows the game down almost every time he gets the ball.

How has he been "bloody good"?

I think it’s probably to do with how devoid of passion the team has been for a couple of seasons now.

He has an important role to play in the squad but he can't (and won't) be the leading striker every week. I thought him and Fatawu looked dangerous when they were playing as split strikers though. During Ramsey's suspension i'd like to see him play up front with Carranza at some point.

I think it's a crime that we gave him the number 9 by the way.

Just for balance; other colas are available.

Ayew is a very, very average player.  I don't think i'll ever understand why we signed him and got rid of Tom Cannon.

Both pretty average but we already had Cannon and I assume we were paying him less so should have been used and the resources spent on Ayew diverted elsewhere.

He is our Patrick Bamford.  Will do something decent once every 6 or 7 games but that's it.  Pray that this Carranza fella is a gem so we don't have to watch Ayew hitting the deck constantly.

People are always going to be disappointed with Ayew. He's going to be an ok player for us, nothing more, he will have decent moments in games and will have complete shockers.

I actually think he cares as well, and seems to be a good guy, especially around the young players.

He's not a number 9 though, although scored a typical 9 goal at the weekend.

Tom Cannon was and is absolutely average and we got paid £10m for him.

4 goals in 39 games for us and since selling him.

Even his loan spell at Stoke, he hardly lit the place up. He had one great game against Portsmouth but otherwise scored 7 in 24 for them.

Ain't that the truth. At one point in the 22-23 relegation season I was trying to convince myself that Kristiansen was exactly what we needed, because he pumped his fists a bit in the cup against Walsall. lol

I've never been a fan of players that can't stay upright.  I think his fall down routine takes pressure off our opponents by killing our attacks.

If that's his best quality then god help us.

Whilst I understand and appreciate that, it seems to be one of our only options at the moment… sucks having a striker who can’t control or pass a ball correctly (I hate being unsupportive of players).

He's an average player, but he's the best we've got. Our squad is full of guys like that, Faes, Vesty, Thomas, Hamza etc. Hopefully Carranza proves to be better, but until then, I've got no issue with Ayew starting.

Id rather we play Daka up top than Ayew. Ayew isnt a striker, at least with Daka hes had 25+ goal seasons in the past so a bit of confidence and pontentially the more valuable asset.

Cant comment on Carranza but it does make me laugh how alot of fans think he’ll be like Higuan and should be starting to without even seem him play once

This the same Tom Cannon who has scored twice for Sheff United since we sold him for £10m?

Ayew scored more in one of the worst teams in top flight history.

Agree on both counts.

Daka is shite, but the team plays with a better shape when he starts as a number 9.

I’m not expecting big things from Carranza given his career profile to date. I’m just hoping that he’s better than Daka, which is a pretty low bar.

Surely he was signed to play, no?

Surely he was signed because he was expected to be better than what we have wasn't he?

Otherwise what's the point?

regardless of what you think about Daka, he's one of only two forwards we had on the books two weeks ago, and is set to go to AFCON in January. Unless you want a month of just Ayew up top non stop, or the possibility of a teenager having to lead the line constantly, we needed another striker.

Strange response to my post.  Of course we needed another striker.   I'm not saying we didn't.
