Disagree with this - he holds the ball up pretty well and helps to drag us up the pitch, i think he does a lot of donkey work for the team that largely goes unnoticed.

Disagree with this - he holds up the ball instead of passing, looking to fall over.  The shot before he scored yesterday, had time to shoot but cut outside and took it away from goal.

He is a greedy player and a cheat. Good job he’s gone next season.

If Ayew is our most effective player then it really is testament to how far we’ve fallen. We need to get Soumare and Skipp out of our midfield and really hope that Winks and James provide a better solution. That way the responsibility of creativity might not fall on Ayew from the centre.

It will be interesting to see whether Carranza can perform at this level and then we might also be liberated from having Ayew as our starting number 9. That way he can play what probably is his best position as a supporting striker.

He’s not our biggest problem at the moment  - midfield is - but if he remains our first choice number nine all season then I think the team will need to seriously step up in other areas.

Crikey. I hope everything is ok at home mate!

Ayew is far from perfect. But at times he looked head and shoulders above every single one of Oxford's players. He could be sharper and quicker to get his shot away, that's definitely one criticism. But he works hard and is more than good enough for us at this level.

If we go up, we'll need to reassess. His days as a squad player in the Prem may well be over but let's cross that bridge if and when we come to it.

Carranza is an unknown quantity in English football and Daka works hard with very little end product and not much contribution to the team as a whole beyond perhaps freeing up a little space behind him as he runs off the shoulder of the defender.

Ayew will be crucial this season, like it or not.

If Ayew is “crucial” this season it will either be because Carranza is a failed signing at this level or that the midfield continue to fail to inject any creativity. But, admittedly, he might be.

Personally I’m hoping that he ends up being useful (as a late substitute to see out a game or as a utility player behind the main striker) rather than crucial. If he does end up the latter then I fear we’ll have had a pretty poor season come May.

He is 50% a good player. He holds the ball up well. But then undermines all his good work with the other 50% which is poor. He shoves the ball up his jersey and has no vision or interest in connecting with his team mates. He's like the kid in the playground with an over inflated sense of his ability - beyond greedy!!

Obviously he wasn't a good signing in the context of promotion to the prem and wanting players to build off of long term, but he hasn't been nearly as bad as people make out. Good player to have in the squad at this level and has been a consummate professional in my opinion. Wish he would pass the ball a bit sooner, though.

Would like to see him start as a second striker/10 while Ramsey is out and have him link up with Carranza.

I see that as his role - especially if Ramsey is out. Just at this point I have no knowledge of whether Carranza is going to be great or shite.

He's the sort of guy who seems hard to like, but at the same time lots to like about him. No, doesn't make much sense to me either..

I try to view some players through the lens of the opponent. If he lined up against us for, say, Watford or Middlesbrough, he'd be an absolute pain in the arse and cause problems for us all game long.

Bang on this. There is very little Charisma about him. I think his goal yesterday was the most animated i had seen him for a long time.

I remember after he scored the winner against Southampton last season the interviewer comment about the 'ole ole' song. He had tears in his eyes. I don't think he has common levels of footballing arrogance about him.

Annoyingly he does seem to on occasion pick the ball up in good areas and seems able to beat a man, issue is he holds on to it for way longer than he should, often slowing down the play or missing chances to play others in.

Yesterday he had the perfect chance to pick out Fatawu at the back post, instead he dragged it back and went for a shot.

Think anyone criticising Ayews performance on Saturday isn’t judging what he did on the pitch and just spouting the same old rubbish about him. He had a great game - he’s become the poster boy for our decline and it’s harsh imo.

Skipp is a far worse signing, tries hard and seems like a professional but he’s not good enough. The difference when Winks came on was enormous.

Some of the comments on Ayew seem OTT in both praise and disdain.

It really is simple for me. Ayew as our number 9 stinks - he doesn’t/can’t lead the line so drops to deep and offers hardly anything.

When Marti is “forced” to go 2 up top, he links up play, still holds onto the ball looking for fouls too much but puts in a great and creative outlet.

Stop playing Ayew as the 9 and you’ll see less derisory aimed at Jordan.

Im convinced a lot of the hate he gets must be in jest and 'bandwagon esque'

Okay he can be frustrating at times, and okay he wouldnt have got in our championship line up when we won it a couple of years ago,  but for where we are at right not, he does a job for us and he does it well.

I believe he gets the “hate” due to his age and lack of sell-on-ability.

His qualities are hold up play and the ability to get free-kicks, helping take pressure off of us and also drive us up the pitch.

He does hold onto the ball too long, can play it quicker (but doesn’t). Whether that’s his style of play or is being told to hold onto it longer to ensure supporting runs are made, I don’t know.

I for one am happy with how he’s started and worked this season, although I would like to see Carranza in his position to see what the difference is.

Yeh im not sure why Ayew gets so much stick. We can slate the recruitment team for signing him, BDCR, Skipp etc but whilst they are here, pointless keep slagging them, especially Ayew who is decent. He has his faults and often holds on to the ball too long or shoots instead of passes but he works hard and does alot of donkey work. As another poster said, he'd be a pain in the arse if he was playing against us. His best days are definitely behind him but he's more than good enough at this level, would just be good to use him as the 10 instead of 9 if Carranza can be decent for us.

The fact Ayew has started every single game shows that Marti rates him and he will play alot this season.

As for BDCR, Marti seems to like him and I'll go with his judgement until he gives me reason not to.

Reminds me of the situation we were in with Iheanacho at the start of 23/24. Picking up points but just didn't quite look aggressive enough up top with an inconsistent team press.

I still think there's some fine tuning to do in terms of team selection or tactics for certain players and he's one of them. Definitely got a role to play for us this season but we need more than we are currently getting.

He has the capability no doubt. He has zero pace but he’s technically adept to overcome that.

However, he’s thick as pig shit and continuously going down at the slightest touch of an opposing player isn’t winning free kicks in the Championship unlike the Prem. The amount of times we have handed over possession because of his inability to stay on his feet is worrying and no doubt frustrating to those around him.

I've never been a fan of players that can't stay upright.  I think his fall down routine takes pressure off our opponents by killing our attacks.

If that's his best quality then god help us.

I think it tells us that the alternative is Patson Daka
